Women's Basketball Suffers 65-40 Pioneer Valley Classic Loss To WNEC

WESTFIELD, MA – The Amherst College women’s basketball team dropped its fourth straight decision on Friday night, suffering a 65-40 loss at the hands of Western New England College (WNEC) in the first day of the Pioneer Valley Classic (PVC) hosted by Westfield State College. The Jeffs fell to 1-4, while WNEC improved to 3-1.

The Jeffs mustered a 15-for-47 shooting performance from the floor, while committing 20 turnovers to give WNEC the upper hand. The Golden Bears capitalized, outrebounding Amherst 33-25 and shooting a 41.8% (23-for-55) clip from the floor, including a seven-for-16 performance from behind the arc.

Jennifer Dabrowski led all scorers with 13 points and six rebounds for WNEC, while Sharon Simoncelli chipped in 10 points, and Tiffany DeRosa added nine points and six boards.

Junior Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) was the lone Jeff in double figures, tallying 10 points, two rebounds and two assists. Senior co-captain Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA) racked up eight points and grabbed five caroms, and fellow co-captain Krissy Morin (Litchfield, NH) dished out a trio of assists.

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m., against PVC host, Westfield St.
