MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Amherst College women’s basketball team outscored Wesleyan University 32-21 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 16-point half-time deficit, as Amherst fell to the Cardinals in a Tuesday night non-conference matchup, 58-53. Junior Jenny Muller (N. Andover, MA) tallied 15 points, a trio of assists, a block and a steal as the Jeffs fell to 8-10 (3-2 NESCAC). Wesleyan improves to 14-5 and stands tied for first in the conference at 5-1.

Amherst shot just 25.0% (six-for-24) in the first half, and allowed the Cardinals to connect on 56.5% (13-for-23) of their attempts en route to the 37-21 Wesleyan lead at the break. The Jeffs returned to the court with vengeance, scoring the period’s first 10 points to narrow the gap to six, but Wesleyan returned their edge to 11 soon after.

Senior co-captain Krissy Morin (Litchfield, NH) and sophomore Shaina Pollack (Great Neck, NY) connected on several clutch free-throws down the stretch - while Wesleyan missed five of their own - to pull the Jeffs to within three, but Cardinal junior Kelly Bowman sank four from the charity stripe late in the game to seal the slim victory for Wesleyan.

Pollack joined Muller in double-figures with 10 points, while Morin posted eight. Sophomores Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, IL) and Yasmine Harik (Rye Brook, NY) led the Jeffs with six rebounds a piece, and Reiff added two steals. Rookie Ali Fourney led the Cardinals’ scoring with 14 points, while senior tri-captain Hannah Stubs cleaned the boards, picking up nine rebounds.
