Reiff Nets 29 As Jeffs Down Trinity

AMHERST, MA – Sophomore Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, IL) had a career-high 29 points off the bench for Amherst, as women's basketball downed NESCAC rival Trinity College in both teams' conference opener, 71-58. The Jeffs improve to 6-7 (1-0 NESCAC) as Trinity falls to 5-7 (0-1).
Reiff led the Jeffs, who shot 58.6% in the first half, with eight-for-nine first period shooting, as Amherst built a 38-28 edge at the break. Junior Jenny Muller (N. Andover, MA) converted a pass from sophomore Shaina Pollack (Great Neck, NY) 23 seconds into play to open scoring. The Jeffs would never trail in the game as the Amherst defense limited the Bantams to 27.9% shooting.
Trinity attempted a comeback late in the second half, going on a 10-2 run to pull within four, 62-58, at the three-minute mark, but Muller answered with five consecutive points to spark a 9-0 Amherst run to end the game. Senior Ali Flato (Piedmont, CA) contributed a steal and two assists in the run.
Reiff connected on 13 of 16 from the field to lead all scorers. Senior co-captain Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA) grabbed 10 rebounds and scored six points, while Morin and Muller each posted nine points and four rebounds and Morin dished out six assists. Pollack finished with a career-high eight helpers. Junior Sarah Cox led the Bantams with 20 points, while classmates Catherine Maher and Leigh Melanson added 16 and 14, respectively.
The Jeffs host NESCAC rival Wesleyan University on Friday, January 20th at 7 p.m.
