Jeffs Win Fifth Straight, Top Wellesley, 3-1

WELLESLEY, MA – The Amherst College softball team posted its fifth straight victory on Thursday evening, topping non-conference host Wellesley College, 3-1. Senior hurler Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) improved to 9-2 on the year as the Jeffs moved to 10-4, while Wellesley fell to 10-7.

This marks the ninth straight victory on the hill for Warner, who tossed her eighth complete game of the season. She surrendered just four hits, while fanning 10 batters, increasing her strikeout total to 87 (8.96 strikeouts per seven innings).

Wellesley took a 1-0 lead in fourth when first-year Ashley Bulseco (Princeton, MA) plated Christine Sodaro (Tiburon, CA) on a single. Amherst struck back in the fifth, earning all three of their runs while sending nine batters to the plate.  The Jeffs had three hits and a walk in the frame as senior co-captain Rachel Hoerger (Oakland, CA.), junior Caroline Polales (Winnetka, Ill.) and rookie Alexa Princi (London,
England) all crossed the plate.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader against visiting NESCAC West Division rival Middlebury College.
