May 9, 2006

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College men’s tennis senior co-captain Josh Rilla (Westboro, MA) was awarded the Clarence Chaffee Sportsmanship Award on Tuesday by vote of the NESCAC coaches, sharing the award with Williams senior Bryan Monier.  The award is given annually to the individual or individuals who best combines and displays a high standard of tennis coupled with the highest levels of sportsmanship.

Rilla also was tabbed with his third All-NESCAC recognition, as he was named to the singles second team, after earning first-team singles honors last year and first-team doubles plaudits in his sophomore campaign.

Rilla has started at the No. 1 singles spot for three seasons, and was ranked as high as No. 24 in singles play this year.  He has led the Jeffs to a 14-8 record this season, culminating in their second straight NCAA Regional Finals appearance.
