February 4, 2006

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The 11th-ranked Amherst College men’s squash team and the 13th- ranked women’s squad each took second place at the Little Three Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. The Amherst men defeated Wesleyan 9-0 and fell to champion Williams College 7-2, while the women downed Wesleyan 8-1 and were shutout by Williams, 9-0. The Amherst men are now 6-7 on the season, and the women stand at 5-9. Williams defeated Wesleyan, 9-0, in both the men’s and women’s matchups to take the Little Three crown.

Against Wesleyan, the Amherst men were flawless, downing each opponent 3-0 en route to the shutout. In the Williams match, senior tri-captain Nick Haslett (Bryn Mawr, PA) and rookie Jerome Giovinazzo (Staten Island, NY) defeated Eph first-years Cameron Henry and Thomas Marshall, at the No. 8 and 9 spots, respectively, to snatch the two wins for the Jeffs.

On the women’s side, the Cardinals presented no problems for Amherst as they easily took the match, 8-1. No Jeff, however, could muster a game against her Williams opponent as Amherst was winless against the Ephs.
