Jeffs Earn First Win, Top Eastern Conn., 11-6 March 21, 2006 Amherst scored the first four goals of the game en route to a 10-1 lead, but saw the advantage slowly slip away as ECSU rallied to net five of the last six in the contest, the first meeting between the two schools. Seven players cracked the scoring column for the Jeffs, however, making the gap too wide for the upset-minded Warriors to bridge, as Amherst held on for the win. Senior Preseason All-America long-stick midfielder Andrew Wilcox (Brooklyn, NY) scored a pair of goals for the Jeffs, while fellow senior quad-captain Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ), junior Chris Hofmann (New Canaan, CT), sophomore Will Ferrer (Greenwich, CT) and rookies Brett Miller (Wantagh, NY) and Matt Himler (Manhasset, NY) each found the back of the net once. Ferrer also added a pair of assists. Rookie netminder Matt Pietroforte (Brooklyn, NY) tallied 14 saves, while ECSU’s Kyle Savage stopped 13 Jeff shots. Amherst returns to action on Saturday, March 24 at Trinity College at 1 p.m. |
