Amherst Men's Hockey Posts 2-2 Stalemate At St. Michael's

COLCHESTER, VT – The Amherst College men’s hockey team tied Saint Michaels by the score of 2-2 on Saturday afternoon at Cairns Arena. With the tie Amherst moves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference and St. Michaels moves to 2-2-2 overall (1-1-1 ECAC East).
Sophomore forward Andrew Schremp (Denver, CO) gave the Jeffs an early lead, notching his second goal of the season off an assist from junior forward Trevor Calamel (Lockport, NY) on the power-play.
Amherst held the slight advantage until the third period when St. Michaels’s Ryan Mero (Peekskill, NY) scored the equalizer during a five-minute advantage for the Purple Knights. Jared Silver (Montreal, QC) and Nick Dancey (Anaheim, CA) tallied the assists. Amherst regained control when senior captain Jack Greeley (Scituate, MA) scored his first goal of the season off assists from Schremp and rookie forward Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA). St. Michael’s would force overtime with 3:41 to play when senior Jonathan Perez (Sherman Oaks, CA) scored off helpers from Silver and Dancey.
The Jeffs and the Purple Knights would remain deadlocked throughout overtime and finish the game knotted at 2-2. Amherst Sophomore goaltender Dan Smith (Rochester, MN) recorded 19 stops while Erik Smith (Warwick, RI) made 35 saves for St. Michael’s.
Amherst returns to action next Saturday, December 10, when they travel to conference foe Hobart College at 4 p.m.
