Burns Named NESCAC Player of the Week
November 29, 2005
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year Rylan Burns (Mill Bay, BC) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men’s Hockey Player of the Week on Monday after tallying the first four points of his collegiate career and helping Amherst to the Spurrier Tournament championship at Wesleyan University over the weekend.
Burns opened the weekend with a pair of goals and an assist in the Jeffs’ 7-4 non-conference victory over Connecticut College on Saturday. He notched the Amherst’s first score to knot the game at 1-1 and later tallied an insurance goal to put the Jeffs up 6-4 in the third period. He also fed senior A.J. Greco for the game’s final score. On Sunday, Burns found the net in grand fashion, blasting home a power-play goal 3:14 into overtime to topple tournament host Wesleyan, 3-2, and seal the championship for Amherst.
Amherst returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. at seventh-ranked ECAC East foe Norwich University.
