Jeffs End 2005-06 Slate With 5-1 Quarterfinal Loss At Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME - The sixth-seeded Amherst College men’s hockey team fell on Saturday afternoon to third-seeded host Bowdoin College. Amherst finished the season 12-12-1 overall, while Bowdoin improved to 16-6 and advances to the conference semifinals, hosted by Middlebury College.
Bowdoin got the only goal of the opening period when Sebastian Belanger scored an unassisted tally at 16:51. The second period saw the Polar Bears push their lead to two when Mike Westerman lit the lamp from Belanger and Greg McConnell at the 15:16 mark.
Amherst cut the lead in half when junior defenseman Brandon Zangel (Highlands Ranch, CO) scored off feeds from junior forward Sean Ellis (Springfield, MA) and sophomore forward Gregg Adamo (Manalapan, NJ), but Bowdoin answered with a Jon Landry score from Adam Dann and Colin Hughes, followed by the game clincher as Mike Chute scored from Richard Leahy at 10:18 of the third. Westerman notched his second of the game from Landry and Jesse Minnerman to pad the Polar Bear lead with just under two minutes to play.
Amherst junior goalie Josh Fillman (Charlestown, MA) made 27 saves for Amherst while Bowdoin netminder George Christpoulos made 20 stops for Bowdoin.
