Jeffs Fall at Colby, 5-1

WATERVILLE, ME – The Amherst College men’s hockey team suffered its second straight loss on Saturday, falling at NESCAC foe Colby College, 5-1. The Jeffs fell to 12-7-1 overall and 9-5-1 in conference play, while the Mules moved to 13-7 overall and 9-6 in the conference standings.

Colby picked up a pair of first-period scores en route to an early lead as Ryan Chernek found the net at the 3:49-mark and Arthur Fritch doubled the lead just over five minutes later. Junior Erik Lund (Edina, MN) tallied the lone Jeffs score at the 13:14-point of the second frame, lighting the lamp off feeds from sophomore Kyle Schoppel (Cambridge, ON) and rookie Shane Lennox (N. Vancouver, BC). The Mules would go on to notch three more scores in the final period, including a pair from T.J. Kelley, to seal the victory.

Amherst junior Josh Fillman (Charlestown, MA) grabbed 22 saves between the pipes, while Colby counterpart Ben Grandjean tallied 29 stops.

Amherst returns to the ice Friday at 7 p.m. at against visiting ECAC East rival New England College.
