Men's Hockey Upended At Hamilton, 7-4
FROM A HAMILTON COLLEGE RELEASE
CLINTON, NY - The Amherst College men’s hockey team suffered a 7-4 loss at NESCAC rival Hamilton College on Tuesday night. Sophomore Gregg Adamo (Manalapan, NJ) and rookie defenseman Rylan Burns (Mill Bay, BC) paced the Jeffs tallying two goals and three assists, respectively, as they fell to 6-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play.
Hamilton sophomore Andrew Decristoforo tallied his first career hat trick to lead the Continentals, who improved to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play. He scored his first goal just 53 seconds after the puck dropped for the early edge, but Amherst sophomore Kyle Schoppel (Cambridge, ON) knotted the score with a power-play tally at the 4:32-mark. This however would be the end of the Jeffs’ hopes as Hamilton reeled off four straight goals, including three with a one-man advantage, to take a commanding lead.
The closest Amherst could get down the stretch was a 5-3 deficit as Adamo notched his first score of the game eight minutes into the second frame. The Continentals squashed any comeback aspirations with two more scores, including Decristoforo’s third and final goal to open the third-period scoring.
Amherst junior defenseman Brandon Zangel (Highlands Ranch, CO) also found the net, while junior Sean Ellis (Springfield, MA) and rookie Shane Lennox (N. Vancouver, BC) each dealt assists. Sophomore Dan Smith (Rochester, MN) posted 37 saves between the pipes.
Amherst returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. against visiting ECAC East rival Salem State College.
