Amherst's Olson Named NESCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College sophomore point guard Andrew Olson (San Diego, CA) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after being named the most valuable player at the fifth-annual Pioneer Valley Classic (PVC) over the weekend.

Olson opened the weekend in grand fashion, setting a PVC record with 12 assists in an 80-74 win over Springfield College on Friday night. He also notched a career-high 18 points and five rebounds in the win. Olson followed with a 17-point, five-assist performance in Saturday's 102-77 romp over Westfield State College, in which he was a flawless five-for-five from behind the arc.

Olson currently leads the NESCAC with a scorching 69.2% (nine-for-13) from three-point land. He also ranks among the conference leaders in assists (5.75 apg) and field goal percentage (54.3%). As a rookie, he took home Co-NESCAC Rookie of the Year plaudits after finishing fourth in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (2.51) and eighth in assists (4.04 apg).

Amherst returns to action tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 7 p.m. against local non-conference visitor Western New England College.
