AMHERST, MA – Amherst College men’s basketball senior co-captain John Bedford (Ridgewood, NJ) was named to the Second-Team All-Northeast Region by on Tuesday night. Bedford, who leads the Jeffs to their second NCAA Final Four appearance in Salem, Va. this weekend, adds to his arsenal of awards which include NESCAC First-Team honors the past two years, and All-Northeast Region Third Team and Honorable Mention New England Division III ECAC All-Star nods last season.

Bedford has been outstanding in the post-season, averaging 21.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest in the Jeffs’ four-week, six-game post-season run. Entering the weekend, he stands in fourth place on the all-time Amherst scoring leaderboard with 1,494 career points, and needs just 18 points to surpass Jim Rehnquist ’77 and move into third. Bedford will look to narrow this gap as Amherst takes on Wittenburg College Friday night at 6 p.m. in the National Semifinals.

The NESCAC was well-represented on the All-Northeast Region squads, as Trinity College senior Tyler Rhoten and Bates College junior Rob Stockwell made the First Team, Colby College junior Drew Cohen joined Bedford on the Second Team, and Tufts University senior Dan Martin, Bates junior Zak Ray, and Williams College sophomore Chris Rose earned Third-Team Plaudits.
