Amherst's Wheeler Named NESCAC Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA – After leading the ninth-ranked Amherst College men’s basketball team to its second straight regular season NESCAC crown with a trio of victories last week, junior Dan Wheeler (Bloomington, MN) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Player of the Week on Monday.
Wheeler averaged 21.3 points per game during the week, connecting on 68.8% (22-for-32) of his shots from the floor, including a red-hot 62.5% (10-for-16) from three-point land. He also buried 90.9% (10-for-11) of his tosses from the charity stripe. He opened the week with a career-high 24 points at Lasell on Tuesday before following with 21 points in Friday’s win over Bates and 19 points in the Jeffs’ regular season finale on Saturday against Tufts.
Wheeler stands 12th in the conference in scoring at 13.4 points per game and ranks fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.449) and 10th in field goal percentage (.496).This marks the third regular season conference championship for the Jeffs. They open tournament play next Saturday, February 18, as they host eighth-seeded Connecticut College at 3 p.m.
