Jeffs Drop A Pair To Williams

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College baseball team lost a pair of games to NESCAC rival Williams College on Saturday afternoon falling 4-3 in game one and 8-0 in game two. With the losses, the Jeffs drop to 14-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in league play, while the Ephs improve to 16-7 (3-3 NESCAC West).

Junior catcher Chris Kenney (Walpole, MA) was a perfect 4-for-4 in game one with a run scored, while senior third baseman Mike Overend (Hebron, CT) had two hits and two RBI to pace Williams. Sophomore pitcher Matt Gustafson (Cupertino, CA) went 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs and walking two, while junior pitcher Mike Disner (W. Bloomfield, MI) pitched 2.2 and picked up the victory for the Ephs. Junior starter Brian Donahue (Sudbury, MA) went the distance for Amherst, allowing four earned runs and striking out seven, but picked up his first loss of the season. Senior first baseman Dave Levinson (Chester Springs, PA) tallied a hit and an RBI for the Jeffs while sophomore catcher Josh Card (North Adams, MA) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and made a number of great defensive plays throughout the afternoon.

Williams junior pitcher Ryan Fote threw a complete game four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to seal the win for the Ephs in the second game of the day. Kenney stayed hot at the plate with three more hits and an RBI, while junior first baseman Sean Gleeson (Glen Ridge, NJ) and junior shortstop Paul Morgan (Essex Junction, VT) each added a pair of RBI and a run scored. Amherst starter Nick Kehoe (Washington, CT) went seven innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out four as he picked up his second loss of the season.

Amherst returns to action Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they host Eastern Connecticut State University.
