Harmeling Reaches Holleran Cup Semifinals at CSA Women's Championships

March 7, 2005

HANOVER, NH - Amherst College senior co-captain Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) reached the Holleran Cup semifinals at the College Squash Association (CSA) Women’s Championships, hosted by Dartmouth College over the weekend.

As the No. 2 seed, Harmeling opened tournament play with a 3-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall’s Jessie Mitchell. Harmeling then defeated Kelsey Engman of Bates in the second round, 3-0, and disposed of seventh-seeded Anina Nolan of Princeton in the quarterfinals, 3-1. However, No. 3 seed and eventual tournament champion Lauren McCrery of Yale stopped Harmeling in the semifinals with a 3-0 victory.

Sophomore Caroline Shannon (Hanover, NH), the only other Amherst participant, suffered a 3-0 loss to Engman in the opening round, but rebounded with a 3-0 win over Mitchell in the consolation bracket before falling to eventual consolation champion Kendell Anders of Denison.

Amherst finished its season at 12-8, placing 11th at the Howe Cup National Championships, held at Princeton University, February 18-20.
