Jeffs Close Regular Season with Non-League Win at Sage

TROY, NY - Rookie forward Matia Kostakis (Andover, MA) shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and tallied game highs of 21 points and eight rebounds as the Amherst College women’s basketball team closed its regular season at 14-10 with a 67-49 non-league win at Russell Sage College on Monday night. The Jeffs now set their sights on the NESCAC Championship Tournament, beginning with Saturday’s 3 p.m. opening-round matchup at Little Three rival Wesleyan.

Amherst sophomore Liz Avis (Shrewsbury, MA) added eight points in just 10 minutes off the bench, while first-year Shaina Pollack (Great Neck, NY) and sophomores Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) and Caroline Polales (Chicago, IL) chipped in seven points apiece. Pollack also dished out a game-high six assists.

Russell Sage dropped to 5-17 with the loss.
