Jeffs Blank Lesley, Tie RPI in Florida Openers

March 13, 2005

FORT MYERS, FL - The Amherst College softball team opened its season with a pair of games in Fort Myers, Florida on Sunday, pounding Lesley University 10-0 before battling RPI to a 2-2 nine-inning stalemate.

Three Amherst hurlers combined to pitch a no-hitter against Lesley. Junior Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) drew the start and struck out six in three innings. Sophomore Hilary Little (Kentfield, CA) and rookie Samantha Miller (Newton, MA) each tossed two unblemished frames in relief to seal the no-hitter. Junior Rachel Hoerger (Oakland, CA) doubled twice and finished with three hits in the win, while first-year Ralina Shaw (Tumwater, WA) doubled and tripled in her collegiate debut. Fellow rookie Elizabeth Neckes (Dover, MA) bolstered the offense with a pair of singles.

Warner then threw all nine innings against RPI, striking out 14 and surrendering just two hits. Little, fellow sophomores Annalise Rodli (La Canada, CA) and Caroline Polales (Winnetka, IL) and rookie Kelly King (Grosse Pointe Park, MI) each singled for the Jeffs.

Amherst returns to action in Fort Myers, Monday at 9 a.m. against UMass Boston, followed by an 11 a.m. tilt against Wilmington College.
