Warner Earns First-Team Academic All-District; Jeffs Place Three on Softball All-NESCAC Squad
May 12 - Amherst junior softball pitcher Miya Warner was named First-Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. She was also tabbed First-Team All-NESCAC, while junior outfielder Rachel Hoerger and rookie catcher Elizabeth Neckes joined her on the all-conference squad, earning second-team recognition. Jeffs Fall From Playoff Contention with Doubleheader Loss to Williams
May 1 - The Amherst softball team was eliminated from playoff contention with a pair of losses to visiting Williams College on Sunday afternoon in a matchup that was originally scheduled for Williamstown but moved to Amherst at the last minute due favorable field conditions. Williams took the opener 5-4, clinching a berth in the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament, and then won the second game, 9-6. Full Story

Jeffs Split West Division Twinbill at Middlebury
April 29 - In a key NESCAC West Division matchup on Friday, the Amherst softball team split a crucial doubleheader at Middlebury College, winning the opener 1-0 in extra innings before dropping the second game 2-1. With the split, Middlebury finished its conference slate at 6-2 and clinched a berth in the four-team NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament. Amherst moved to 14-10-1 overall and 4-2 in divisional play. The Jeffs need to sweep a doubleheader at Williams on Sunday to secure a postseason berth. Full Story

Softball at Williams Moved From Saturday to Sunday
April 29 - Amherst's softball doubleheader at NESCAC and Little Three rival Williams College, originally scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 30, has been postponed until Sunday, May 1, at noon. Softball Schedule

More Softball Schedule Changes
April 25 - Due to a scheduling conflict, Tuesday’s (Apr. 26) Amherst softball game against visiting Western New England College has been postponed indefinitely. Meanwhile, the Amherst softball doubleheader at NESCAC West Division rival Middlebury College that was rained out over the weekend has been rescheduled for this Friday (Apr. 29) at 4:30 p.m. Softball Schedule

Jeffs Blanked at Trinity
April 19 - The Amherst softball team suffered a 7-0 non-conference loss at Trinity College on Tuesday. Trinity junior Victoria Moshier hurled a complete-game four-hit shutout and was 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI as the Bantams evened their record at 11-11, while Amherst dropped to 13-9-1. Neckes Leads Jeffs Past Brandeis, 3-2
April 16 - Rookie catcher Elizabeth Neckes singled home classmate Laura Smith for the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Amherst softball team (13-8-1) to a dramatic 3-2 non-league win over visiting Brandeis University (7-22) on Saturday. Full Story

Jeffs Split with Westfield State
April 13 - The Amherst softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with visiting Westfield State College on Wednesday, dropping the opener 2-0, but rebounding for a 2-0 victory in Game 2. Amherst rookie Samantha Miller was outstanding on the hill, allowing just one hit, while striking out three in three innings of work, and junior Miya Warner came on to pick up her ninth victory, striking out three and surrendering one hit in four innings as the Jeffs moved to 12-8-1. Warner, Shaw Lead Jeffs Past Clark, 6-0
April 12 - Amherst junior Miya Warner tossed 6.1 innings of no-hit ball and rookie slugger Ralina Shaw smacked her second home run in as many games as the Jeffs posted a 6-0 non-conference softball victory over visiting Clark University on Tuesday. Amherst improved to 11-7-1, while Clark fell to 8-10. Full Story

Jeffs Sweep Hamilton
April 10 - The Amherst softball team earned a pair of NESCAC West Division victories over visiting Hamilton College on Sunday, applying the mercy rule for an 8-0 win in the opener and taking the second game 6-1. Junior Laura Trigeiro was a combined 3-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored, a trio of stolen bases and an RBI, while rookie Ralina Shaw combined for four hits, including a walk-off home run and four RBIs in the opener as the Jeffs improved to 10-7-1 (3-1 NESCAC West). Jeffs Split with Wesleyan
April 9 - The Amherst softball team split its conference-opening doubleheader with visiting NESCAC West Division rival Wesleyan University on Saturday. The Jeffs took the opener in extra innings, 3-2, but dropped the second game, 2-1, as they moved to 8-7-1 (1-1 NESCAC West), while Wesleyan moved to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Jeffs Edge Wellesley, 1-0
April 7 - The Amherst softball team snapped a four-game losing skid on Thursday, edging visiting non-conference foe Wellesley College, 1-0. Rookie Samantha Miller and sophomore Hilary Little combined for a three-hit shutout as the Jeffs improved to 7-6-1, while Wellesley fell to 11-6. Full Story

April 1 - Tomorrow’s Amherst softball doubleheader against visiting Hamilton College has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather and rescheduled for Sunday, Apr. 10, at 1 p.m. Softball Schedule

Jeffs Fall at Smith, 5-2
March 31 - The Amherst softball team suffered its fourth straight loss on Thursday, falling at non-conference opponent Smith College, 5-2. Sophomore third baseman Caroline Polales doubled and scored a run as the Jeffs dropped to 6-6-1 with the loss, while Smith improved to 7-6. Full Story

Jeffs Drop Doubleheader at WPI
March 30 - The Amherst softball team dropped a doubleheader at non-conference foe WPI on Wednesday, suffering a narrow 2-1 hard-luck loss in the opener and falling 9-5 in the second game. The Jeffs fell to 6-5-1 with the losses, while WPI improved to 9-2. Full Story

Jeffs Split with Visiting Bates
March 26 - The Amherst softball team opened its 2005 home slate with a non-league doubleheader split against visiting Bates on Saturday afternoon. The Jeffs (6-3-1) claimed the opener 3-0 on a dominating two-hit pitching performance by junior Miya Warner, but dropped the second game 4-0. Full Story

Inclement Weather Causes Slew of Postponements
March 24 - Today’s Amherst softball game against visiting Clark University and women’s lacrosse game at Wheaton College, as well as Saturday’s baseball doubleheader at Westfield State College, have been postponed due to inclement weather. The softball game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 12th at 4 p.m. No makeup dates have yet been announced for women’s lacrosse and baseball. Additionally, Saturday’s men’s lacrosse game against Trinity College, which was to be played at Keene State College, has been moved to Trinity. Game time is 1 p.m.

Warner Named ECAC Division III New England Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week
March 23 - Amherst junior Miya Warner was named the Division III New England Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week by the ECAC on Wednesday. Warner started five of the Jeffs’ first eight games in Fort Myers, Fla., to the tune of a 4-0 record, 52 strikeouts (against just six hits and seven walks) and a glistening 0.00 earned run average in 30.0 innings of work. Jeffs Exit Florida with Win Over Lasell, Loss to Transylvania
March 20 - The Amherst softball team concluded its season-opening Florida swing with a pair of games on Friday, blanking Lasell College 8-0 and falling to Transylvania University 7-2. Junior hurler Miya Warner improved to 4-0, striking out nine and pitching a one-hitter in the opener, while rookie Ralina Shaw drilled a solo homer in the loss. Full Story

Jeffs Victimized by Florida Rain
March 17 - Amherst's baseball, softball and women’s lacrosse teams were all scheduled to see action in Florida on Thursday, but inclement weather forced cancellations across the board. No makeup dates have yet been announced. Baseball was scheduled to play Illinois College, while softball was slated for a pair of games against Suffolk University and The College of Wooster. Meanwhile, the women’s lacrosse team held a commanding 11-2 lead over St. Lawrence University with approximately 16 minutes remaining when play was suspended. Statistics from that game are not considered official.

Jeffs Blank Worcester St., Bow to Potsdam
March 15 - The Amherst softball team moved to 4-1-1 on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Worcester State and a narrow 1-0 loss to SUNY-Potsdam. Both games were played in Fort Myers, Florida. Junior hurler Miya Warner tossed a one-hitter and fanned 13 Worcester St. batters in the opener, while first-year Samantha Miller pitched a complete game, struck out six and scattered just three hits against Potsdam. Undefeated Jeffs Pound UMass Boston, Blank Wilmington
March 14 - The Amherst softball team remained undefeated at 3-0-1 with a 7-1 win over UMass Boston and a 10-0 victory over Wilmington College in Fort Myers, Florida on Monday. Sophomore Caroline Polales combined for five hits in the double header and nearly hit for the cycle in the second game. Full Story

Jeffs Blank Lesley, Tie RPI in Florida Openers
March 3 - The Amherst softball team opened its season with a pair of games in Fort Myers, Florida on Sunday, pounding Lesley University 10-0 before battling RPI to a 2-2 nine-inning stalemate. Three Amherst hurlers combined to pitch a no-hitter against Lesley. Junior Miya Warner drew the start and struck out six in three innings. Sophomore Hilary Little and rookie Samantha Miller each tossed two unblemished frames in relief to seal the no-hitter. Full Story

Jeffs Seek NESCAC West Crown in 2005
February 1 - Coming off a 13-14 campaign, the Amherst softball team returns one of the best hurlers in the nation in junior fireballer Miya Warner, as well as their leading hitter for the past two seasons, junior first baseman Laura Trigeiro. Head coach Sue Everden’s Jeffs open their 2005 slate in Fort Myers, Fla., in preparation for their March 24th home opener against non-league foe Clark University. Full Preview
