Rilla Posts NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament First-Round Victory, Falls in Second-Round
May 21 - Amherst junior Josh Rilla advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III menís tennis singles championships, hosted by the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC), on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Brandon Harris of Goucher College. However, Rilla fell there, suffering a 6-2, 6-2 loss to defending national champion Matt Seeberger of UCSC. Full Story

Rilla Earns Bid to NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championships
May 11 - Amherst junior Josh Rilla earned a bid to the NCAA Menís Tennis Singles Championships, to be held May 21-23 at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Amherstís top singles player, Rilla led the Jeffs to a 10-6 record and a trip to the NCAA Northeast Regional Finals this spring. Full Story

20th-Ranked Jeffs Fall at Top-Ranked Middlebury in NCAA Regional Final
May 7 - The 20th-ranked Amherst menís tennis team saw its season come to a screeching halt with a 4-0 loss at top-ranked defending national champion Middlebury College in the finals of NCAA Northeast Regional play on Saturday. Amherst, which upended 18th-ranked Bates College in NCAA First-Round action on Friday, finishes its season at 10-6, while Middlebury advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals, hosted this year by the University of California Santa Cruz, for the third consecutive spring. 20th-Ranked Jeffs Upend No. 18 Bates in NCAA Northeast Regional
May 6 - The 20th-ranked Amherst menís tennis team steamrolled 18th-ranked Bates College in the opening round of NCAA Northeast Regional play at Middlebury College on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Jeffs improve to 10-5 overall and advance to the Northeast Regional final, where theyíll meet host Middlebury, the top-ranked team in the nation, tomorrow at 3 p.m. with a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals in Santa Cruz, Calif., at stake. Middlebury Wins, Amherst Fifth at NESCAC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament
April 24 - Middlebury College claimed four of the six singles finals and two of the three doubles finals to win the 2005 NESCAC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament, hosted by Amherst College on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Amherst placed fifth behind rookie Mike Mintz and senior Max Rettig, who reached the No. 4 and No. 5 singles finals, respectively. Full Story

20th-Ranked Jeffs Snap Two-Match Skid with 6-1 Win Over Tufts
April 19 - The 20th-ranked Amherst menís tennis team swept the doubles point and won five singles matches, halting a two-match losing streak with a 6-1 win over visiting Tufts University on Tuesday. Amherst (9-5) claimed all three doubles tilts to snag the opening point for the first time in four matches. Full Story

Rettig, Babkes, Wan Nearly Save the Day, but 20th-Ranked Jeffs Drop Close One to No. 15 Bowdoin
April 17 - After losing a point with a trio of close-shave losses in doubles play, the resurgent 20th-ranked Amherst menís tennis team came storming back against visiting 15th-ranked Bowdoin College, claiming a trio of singles wins but falling just short in a heart-wrenching 4-3 loss on Sunday. 20th-Ranked Jeffs Fall to Defending National Champ Middlebury
April 16 - Amherst junior Josh Rilla took down the top-ranked singles player in the region, junior Brian Waldron, and paired with classmate Danny Babkes for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, but that was all the 20th-ranked Jeffs could muster in a 6-1 loss to visiting defending national champ Middlebury College on Saturday. Rookie Mintz Tallies Clutch Victory in Jeffs' Win Over Trinity
April 12 - Rookie Mike Mintz and the rest of the Amherst menís tennis team braved the elements and a determined Trinity College club en route to a hard-fought 4-3 win over the visiting Bantams on Tuesday. Senior Max Rettig, junior Danny Babkes and sophomore Lenny Lepner each posted straight-set singles wins for Amherst as the Jeffs improved to 8-3. Full Story

Jeffs Roll Past NYU
April 9 - After suffering a hard-fought loss to archrival Williams on Saturday, the Amherst menís tennis team rebounded with a 5-2 win over visiting New York University on Sunday, upping its record to 7-3. The Jeffs claimed the doubles point as sophomore Jon Godsall teamed with rookie Mike Mintz for an easy 8-1 win, and first-years Tal Avrahami and Jeff Wan followed with an 8-5 victory. Sophomore Lenny Lepner fell short in his doubles bid, but rebounded to grind out a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Full Story

Jeffs Suffer 5-2 Loss to Williams
April 9 - The Amherst menís tennis team suffered a 5-2 defeat to visiting archrival Williams College on Saturday. Junior Josh Rilla and sophomore Lenny Lepner picked up the lone Amherst victories as the Jeffs fell to 6-3, while Williams evened its record at 6-6. Full Story

Jeffs Make it Two in a Row with Win at Wesleyan
April 2 - The Amherst menís tennis team won its second match in as many days with a 6-1 victory at Little Three rival Wesleyan University on Saturday. Senior Max Rettig, juniors Danny Babkes and Josh Rilla, sophomore Lenny Lepner and first-year Michael Mintz each rolled to straight-set singles wins as the Jeffs improved to 6-2. Full Story

Jeffs Fall at Conn. College ... APRIL FOOLS!
April 1 - No, the Amherst menís tennis team did not fall at Connecticut College on Friday. In fact the visiting Jeffs handed the host Camels a 7-0 April Fools drubbing, sweeping every set and surrendering just 10 games in six singles and three doubles matches. Amherst junior Josh Rilla and rookies Jeffrey Wan and Tal Avrahami rubber-stamped the rout with a trio of 6-0, 6-0 singles wins. Full Story

Tufts Match Rescheduled
April 1 - The Amherst men's tennis match against visiting Tufts University, which was postponed on Mar. 28 due to inclement weather, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 3 p.m. Full Schedule

More Schedule Changes
March 28 - Amherst's menís tennis match against visiting Drew University, originally scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 3, has been moved to Sunday, Apr. 10, at 1 p.m. The Jeffs have also cancelled their match at MIT scheduled for Wednesday, Apr. 20. Full Schedule

Men's Tennis Against Tufts Postponed, at Conn. College Rescheduled
March 28 - Today's Amherst men's tennis match against visiting Tufts University has been postponed due to inclement weather, while Thursday's match at Connecticut College has been pushed back to Friday (Apr. 1) at 3:30 p.m. A makeup date against Tufts has not yet been announced. Full Schedule

Jeffs' Home Openers Postponed
March 21 - Tuesdayís Amherst menís tennis home opener against Boston College and Wednesdayís menís lacrosse home opener against Endicott College have been postponed due to unplayable court and field conditions. The menís lacrosse game has been rescheduled for Monday, Apr. 11 at 4 p.m. No makeup date has yet been announced for menís tennis. Full Schedule

Jeffs Washed in California
March 20 - Inclement weather caused a series of cancellations for the Amherst menís and womenís tennis teams over the weekend. The men were rained out at the University of Redlands on Saturday, while the women managed to squeeze in a trio of doubles matches Friday against Columbia University (at Cal St. Fullerton) before being totally washed Saturday at Claremont College. Jeffs Fall at Vanguard, 5-2
March 17 - The Amherst menís tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss at Vanguard University on Thursday. Rookie Geoff Schwartz posted his second consecutive singles victory, while junior Josh Rilla earned his first singles win of the spring as the Jeffs fell to 4-2 on the year. Full Story

Jeffs Open Spring Slate with 5-2 Loss at Cal Lutheran
March 16 - The Amherst menís tennis team opened its spring slate with a 5-2 loss at California Lutheran University on Wednesday. Sophomore Lenny Lepner and first-year Geoff Schwartz each notched singles victories, while juniors Josh Rilla and Danny Babkes teamed for the lone doubles win as the Jeffs fell to 4-1 on the year. Jeffs Wrap Up Fall Slate Undefeated, Sweep Colby, 7-0
October 17 - The Amherst menís tennis finished its fall slate a flawless 4-0, sweeping visiting Colby College on Sunday, 7-0. The Jeffs won nearly every set in singles competition, the closest match being a 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 victory by first-year Jeffrey Wan. Full Story

Jeffs Remain Undefeated, Topple Roger Williams and Salve Regina
October 9 - The Amherst menís tennis team remained undefeated with a 7-0 victory at Roger Williams University on Friday and a 6-1 win at Salve Regina University on Saturday, improving to 3-0 on the season. Full Story

Jeffs Blank Brandeis, 7-0
October 6 - The Amherst menís tennis team blanked visiting Brandeis University on Tuesday, 7-0, in the Jeffsí first dual match of the season. Amherst sophomore Jeff Lawrence and first-year Michael Mintz teamed for a narrow 9-7 doubles victory, while each won their respective singles match in straight sets as the Jeffs dealt Brandeis its first loss of the season. Babkes Reaches Semifinals at Wilson ITA Men's Tennis New England Championships
October 4 - Amherst junior Danny Babkes reached the semifinals at the Wilson ITA New England Menís Tennis Championships, hosted by MIT over the weekend, winning four straight matches before falling to eventual tournament champion Brian Waldron of Middlebury College. Full Story

Jeffs Dominate ECAC Championship for Second Straight Year
September 20 - The Amherst menís tennis team took home first place for the second straight year at the ECAC Menís Tennis Championships, held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Vassar College. The Jeffs won the event by the largest margin in its eight-year history at Vassar, winning five of six flight championships and totaling 23 points, 10.5 more than second-place finishers Salve Regina University and NYU. Rilla, Babkes & Co. Set to Lead Men's Tennis
September 10 - After winning the doubles title at last year's NESCAC Championship Tournament, juniors Danny Babkes and Josh Rilla are poised to lead a strong men's tennis contingent in 2004-05.
