Altreche Wins ECAC Award of Valor
July 20 - Amherst menís lacrosse goalie Raul Altreche has been named the lone NCAA Division III recipient of the 2005 ECAC Award of Valor, as announced by ECAC Commissioner Phil Buttafuoco on Wednesday. Established in 1985, the award honors one student-athlete representing ECAC schools in Divisions I, II and III whose courage, motivation and relentless determination serve as an inspiration to all, exemplifying strength of character, perseverance, and most importantly, accomplishment deserving recognition as being truly triumphant. Wilcox, Donohue, Cherney Earn USILA All-America, ECAC New England All-Star Honors
June 2 - Amherst junior long-stick midfielder Andrew Wilcox, sophomore attacker Derek Cherney and senior defender Greg Donohue were each named to the USILA 2005 STX-Geico All-America Team. Wilcox was a second-team All-America selection, while Cherney and Donahue were honorable mention picks. The ECAC tabbed Cherney and Wilcox First-Team All-New England and Donohue second-team. Cherney Named NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Year, Donohue, Wilcox, Syfu Earn All-Conference Honors
May 11 - Amherst sophomore attacker Derek Cherney was named the NESCAC Menís Lacrosse Co-Player of the Year on Wednesday, earning his second consecutive first-team all-conference award. Joining him on the first-team were junior long-stick midfielder Andrew Wilcox and senior defender Greg Donohue, while senior midfielder Andrew Syfu nabbed Second-Team All-NESCAC honors. Full Story

Third-Seeded Jeffs Fall to Fourth-Seeded Wesleyan in NESCAC Tournament Semifinals, 13-9
May 7 - The third-seeded Amherst menís lacrosse team fell to fourth-seeded Wesleyan University 13-9 in the NESCAC Tournament semifinals, hosted by Middlebury College on Saturday. Sophomore Chris Hofmann posted three goals and two assists and classmate Derek Cherney tallied a pair of goals and two assists as the Jeffs conclude their season at 11-4. Full Story

Casertano Named ECAC Riddell Lacrosse Men's Player of the Week
May 4 - Senior Alex Casertano was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Riddell Lacrosse New England Menís Player of the Week after combining for 16 points on 11 goals and five assists in a 3-0 week for the 10th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team. He tallied four goals and an assist in Tuesdayís 15-7 win over Connecticut College, followed with a pair of scores and two assists in Saturdayís 14-6 rout at Williams College and capped the week with a five-goal, two-assist performance in a 17-7 NESCAC Tournament quarterfinal victory over Conn. Third-Seeded Jeffs Hammer No. 6 Seed Conn. College in NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinals, 17-7
May 1 - The third-seeded Amherst menís lacrosse team posted a 9-0 first-half shutout over visiting No. 6 seed Connecticut College en route to a 17-7 NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinal victory on Sunday. Senior Alex Casertano and sophomore Derek Cherney powered the Jeff attack with five goals apiece, while Casertano added a pair of assists as the Jeffs improved to 11-3 and advance to next Saturdayís conference semifinal matchup with fourth-seeded Wesleyan University at 3 p.m. at top-seeded Middlebury College. 12th-Ranked Jeffs Destroy Williams, 14-6
April 30 - The 12th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team finished its regular-season slate with a 14-6 blasting of NESCAC host Williams College on Saturday. With their fourth straight win the Jeffs improved to 10-3 overall and 6-3 in conference play, earning the No. 3 seed in the NESCAC Tournament. Amherst hosts sixth-seeded Connecticut College, which the Jeffs defeated 15-7 on Tuesday, in a quarterfinal matchup tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 p.m. Full Story

12th-Ranked Jeffs Win Third Straight, Crush Connecticut College, 15-7
April 26 - The 12th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team posted its third consecutive NESCAC victory on Tuesday, crushing visiting Connecticut College, 15-7. Junior long-stick midfielder Andrew Wilcox and senior midfielder Andrew Syfu dominated play as Wilcox forced a slew of Conn. turnovers, scooped up a game-high nine ground balls and scored a goal, while Syfu added a pair of goals, dished out an assist, won 7-of-11 face-offs and collected five ground balls. Amherst improves to 9-3 (5-3 NESCAC) with the victory, while Conn. falls to 7-5 (5-3 NESCAC). Full Story

18th-Ranked Jeffs Hold Off No. 11 Bowdoin, 10-9
April 23 - The 18th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team held off a late rally from visiting 11th-ranked NESCAC foe Bowdoin College (8-4/5-2 NESCAC) to earn a narrow 10-9 victory on Saturday. Senior midfielder Andrew Syfu netted what proved to be the game-winning score with 12:32 left in the fourth quarter as the Jeffs knocked off their second straight ranked opponent and improved to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in conference play. 18th-Ranked Jeffs Upend No. 20 Bates, 11-9
April 20 - Amherst senior attacker Alex Casertano notched five goals to lead the 18th-ranked Jeffs to an 11-9 menís lacrosse victory over 20th-ranked NESCAC rival Bates College at Harvard University on Wednesday. Amherst improved to 7-3 (3-3 NESCAC), while Bates dropped to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Full Story

12th-Ranked Jeffs Upset by Wesleyan, 10-8
April 16 - Despite outshooting visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University 54-28, the 12th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team suffered a 10-8 upset loss to the unranked Cardinals on Saturday. Wesleyan sophomore goalie Charlie Congleton collected 19 saves to lead the Cardinals, who improved to 7-4 (2-4 NESCAC), while Amherst dropped to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Full Story

13th-Ranked Jeffs Cruise Past Endicott, 14-4
April 11 - The 13th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team piled up 12 first-half goals, while relinquishing none to visiting non-conference foe Endicott College as the Jeffs cruised to a 14-4 victory on Monday. Sophomore Derek Cherney led the rout, scoring six goals and dishing out three assists as Amherst improved to 6-2, while Endicott fell to 8-3. Full Story

13th-Ranked Jeffs Edged at No. 7 Middlebury, 13-12
April 9 - The 13th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought 13-12 loss at seventh-ranked NESCAC rival Middlebury College on Saturday. Middlebury junior Travis Meyer netted an unassisted goal with 1:18 left in regulation, and the Jeffs were unable to convert a man-up opportunity in the waning seconds as Amherst fell to 5-2 (2-2 NESCAC). 13th-Ranked Jeffs Slip Past WNEC, 10-9
April 6 - The 13th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team slipped past upset-minded Western New England College (WNEC) with a narrow 10-9 non-conference victory on Wednesday. Amherst sophomore Derek Cherney tallied two goals and two assists, including the game-winning score, as the Jeffs improved to 5-1, while WNEC fell to 5-3. Full Story

12th-Ranked Jeffs Crush Colby, 11-4
April 2 - The 12th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team crushed NESCAC host Colby College 11-4 on Saturday. Sophomore Chris Hofmann notched a trio of goals and two assists, while senior tri-captain goalie Cushing Donelan surrendered just two goals and grabbed nine saves in 55 minutes of action as the Jeffs improved to 4-1 (2-1 NESCAC). No. 12 Jeffs Suffer First Loss, Fall at Fourth-Ranked Tufts, 9-2
March 30 - The 12th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling at fourth-ranked NESCAC rival Tufts University, 9-2. Senior Alex Casertano paced the Jeff attack with a goal and an assist as they fell to 3-1 (1-1 NESCAC), while Tufts remained undefeated at 4-0 (1-0 NESCAC). Full Story

No. 14 Jeffs Smash Trinity, 12-2
March 26 - The 14th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team smashed host Trinity College 12-2 in the Jeffsí NESCAC opener on Saturday. Amherst senior tri-captain goalie Cushing Donelan allowed just two scores while securing seven saves in just over 56 minutes of action, and classmate Alex Casertano found the net three times as the Jeffs remain undefeated at 3-0 (1-0 NESCAC), while Trinity drops to 2-2 (0-2 NESCAC). Inclement Weather Causes Slew of Postponements
March 24 - Todayís Amherst softball game against visiting Clark University and womenís lacrosse game at Wheaton College, as well as Saturdayís baseball doubleheader at Westfield State College, have been postponed due to inclement weather. The softball game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 12th at 4 p.m. No makeup dates have yet been announced for womenís lacrosse and baseball. Additionally, Saturdayís menís lacrosse game against Trinity College, which was to be played at Keene State College, has been moved to Trinity. Game time is 1 p.m.

Jeffs' Home Openers Postponed
March 21 - Tuesdayís Amherst menís tennis home opener against Boston College and Wednesdayís menís lacrosse home opener against Endicott College have been postponed due to unplayable court and field conditions. The menís lacrosse game has been rescheduled for Monday, Apr. 11 at 4 p.m. No makeup date has yet been announced for menís tennis. Full Schedule

March 16 - The 18th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team tallied five first-period goals en route to a 15-6 victory over non-conference foe Clarkson University in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday. Senior Alex Casertano racked up four goals and an assist, while sophomore Derek Cherney added two goals and dished out four assists as the Jeffs improved to 2-0. Full Story

No. 18 Jeffs Open Season with 13-9 Win Over Keene State
March 14 - The 18th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team opened its season with a 13-9 victory over non-conference foe Keene State College in Orlando, Florida on Monday. Sophomore attacker Derek Cherney racked up four goals and three assists, while fellow sophomore Chris Hofmann tallied a collegiate-best five goals and one assist. Senior tri-captain goalie Cushing Donelan anchored the Amherst defense with 15 saves. Full Story

13th-Ranked Men's Lacrosse Returns Bevy of Top Scorers & Preseason All-America Selections
January 28 - Ranked 13th in the preseason, the Amherst men's lacrosse team returns 10 of its top 11 scorers and four Preseason All-America selections - sophomore Derek Cherney, junior Andrew Wilcox and seniors Greg Donohue and Cushing Donelan. The Jeffs open their season on Monday, March 14, against non-conference foe Keene State College in Orlando, Florida. Full Preview
