12th-Ranked Jeffs Crush Colby, 11-4

WATERVILLE, ME - The 12th-ranked Amherst College menís lacrosse team crushed NESCAC host Colby College 11-4 on Saturday. Sophomore Chris Hofmann (New Canaan, CT) notched a trio of goals and two assists, while senior tri-captain goalie Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) surrendered just two goals and grabbed nine saves in 55 minutes of action as the Jeffs improved to 4-1 (2-1 NESCAC).

The Amherst defense, spearheaded by Donelan, fellow tri-captain Greg Donohue (Bow, NH) and senior Scott Aldrich (Wilmington, MA), held the Mules to just one goal in each of the first two quarters and didnít allow a score in the third to secure a 9-2 lead entering the final frame. Hofmann had a hand in all three third-quarter goals, posting a pair of scores and dishing out an assist. Sophomore Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) and senior Josh Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) tallied three and two goals, respectively, while Derek Cherney dealt an assist as well. Seniors Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) and Graham Lake (Washington, DC) and junior Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ) each had a goal and an assist, and seniors Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN) and Bryan Hiller (Wantagh, NY) had an assist apiece.

Ryan Scott led Colby with three of their four goals, and goalie Jeff Miller registered 13 saves as the Mules dropped to 1-4 (0-2 NESCAC).

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. at non-conference foe Western New England College.
