AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men’s outdoor track and field team grabbed eight first-place finishes, while the women’s team claimed five victories in a mid-week home meet with Trinity College, Keene State College, UMass Lowell and Brandeis University on Tuesday. Amherst senior All-America Mike Page (Fargo, ND) and sophomore All-America Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) won the men’s and women’s 1,500-meter runs, respectively, to lead the way.

Page’s time of 3:59.69 was less than a second faster than the second-place finisher and just over two seconds ahead of classmate Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL), who finished in third in 4:01.81. Fellow senior Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) posted a similarly narrow victory in the 800-meter run, topping Trinity’s Matt Anderson by just .46 seconds, while sophomore Jon Ettinger (Bethesda, MD) earned an even closer win in the 200, holding off Keene State’s Ryan Lacasse by just .03 seconds. Juniors Nick Canevari (Warwick, NY) and L.J. Spinnato (Madison, CT) each collected victories in field events as Canevari won the discus with a toss of 133’ 03”, and Spinnato hurled the hammer 146’ 00” for the win. The Amherst relay teams were successful as well, taking home the 4x100-meter race in 48.08 and claiming the 4x400-meter relay in 3:41.23.

On the women’s side, Garrahan posted her second straight NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time (4:36.52), besting her time from Saturday’s meet by almost four seconds. Senior Lee-Jay Henry (Springfield, MA) topped the triple jump with a mark of 11.20 meters, and junior Krissy Morin (Litchfield, NH) outdistanced the competition in the long jump, leaping 4.57 meters. Junior Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) took home the 800-meter run in 2:17.87, just .48 seconds ahead of Keene State’s Laurie Yorgensen, and sophomore Keyonte Sutherland (Brooklyn, NY) bested the field in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.27.

Both Amherst teams return to action Saturday at noon as they host Wesleyan University and Williams College for the Little Three Championships.
