Amherst's Garrahan Earns ECAC Division III Women's Track Athlete of the Week Honors

April 20, 2005

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College sophomore All-America Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after posting a pair of NCAA Championship provisional qualifying times at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell on Saturday.

Garrahan took home the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:40.51, five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She excelled in the 5,000-meter run as well, finishing second to senior teammate Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) with a time of 17:12.38.

Yesterday, at the Mid-Week Meet hosted by Amherst, Garrahan once again topped the 1,500 field, lowering her provisional qualifying time by almost four seconds. She has also qualified provisionally for this year’s national championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:55.78), nabbing a first-place finish at the Trinity Invitational on April 9.

Already a seven-time All-America, Garrahan has set 10 individual school records in just a pair of indoor track seasons and her second outdoor campaign. She was also a member of the distance medley relay squad that set the school mark during the 2004 indoor season.

Garrahan returns to action this weekend as the Jeffs host the Little Three Championship Meet, and will travel to the University of Pennsylvania on April 28 with teammates Hamill and Mike Page (Fargo, ND) to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays.
