Amherst Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams Fourth at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, MA - Paced by five first-place finishes and two school records, the Amherst College women’s indoor track and field team grabbed fourth place overall at the Tufts Invitational III on Saturday, while the men, led by a pair of first-place showings, took home fourth as well.

Senior All-America Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) captured first in the 3,000-meter run, while junior All-America Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) and sophomore All-America Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) set school records with their victories in the 600-meter dash (1:38.65) and 800-meter run (2:16.25), respectively. Garrahan’s time also earned her provisional qualification for the NCAA Championships. Fellow sophomore Hannah Campbell (Garnerville, NY) posted a pair of third-place finishes in the 55-meter dash and 200-meter dash, while first-year Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) nabbed fourth place in the 1,500 meter run and senior Lee-Jay Henry (Springfield, MA) took fifth in the 55-meter hurdles. Junior Lyndsey Scott (West Orange, NJ) grabbed sixth in the 400-meter dash, and Maria Millard (Orono, ME) tied for seventh in the high jump. Campbell, Henry, Rucker and Scott captured first in the 4x400-meter relay and second in the 4x200-meter relay, while Hamill, Garrahan, Polich and Wilson grabbed first in the 4x800-meter relay.

Senior All-America Mike Page (Fargo, ND) paced the men with a first-place, sub-four minute performance in the 1,500-meter run, while sophomore Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) took second in the 600-meter dash and fellow sophomores Jon Ettinger (Chevy Chase, MD) and John Babbott (Ojai, CA) posted third-place showings in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run, respectively. Senior All-America Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) grabbed fourth in the 1,000-meter run, sophomore Cooper Knowlton (Montclair, NJ) took fifth in the 3,000 meter run, and first-year Mike Harbus (New York, NY) and sophomores Robert Boley (Mount Pleasant, NJ) and Nate Freese (Tunbridge, VT) netted fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run. Senior Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL) placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run, first-year Rom Cabeza (Enfield, CT) took sixth in the 800-meter run and sophomores Geoff Stricsek (Harrison City, PA) and Tim Porter (Newton, MA) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Cabeza, Stricsek and Porter teamed with Ettinger to place second in the 4x400-meter relay, while the 4x800-meter relay squad of Babbott, Hayman, Morgan and Page took first.

Amherst returns to action Friday at the Fast Track Invitational, hosted by Boston University, and competes on Saturday at the Tufts Stampede.
