Jeffs Fall to Conn. College, Upend Wesleyan at Luce Tourney

NEW LONDON, CT - The Amherst College menís hockey team moved to 2-1-1 with a 2-0 loss to host Connecticut College and a 3-1 win over Wesleyan University at the Charles Luce Tournament, held at Conn.ís Dayton Arena on Saturday and Sunday. Fourteenth-ranked Trinity College won the tournament with a 5-2 first-round win over Wesleyan and a 2-1 victory over Conn. in the championship game.

In its first-round loss to Conn., Amherst fell victim to a power-play goal by Julian Madden and an insurance tally by Zach Harris. Conn. goalie Steve Oven picked up the shutout with 34 saves, as the Jeffs outshot the Camels 34-17. Amherst sophomore goalie Josh Fillman (Charlestown, MA) picked up 17 saves in defeat.

In the consolation game against Wesleyan, senior Scott Aldrich (Wilmington, MA) and rookies Andrew Schremp (Denver, CO) and Kyle Schoppel (Cambridge, Ontario) each found the back of the net for Amherst. Senior Beau Kretzman (Edina, MN) assisted on two of the tallies, including Schrempís second-period game-winner, while seniors Marc Russell (Essex, VT), Bill Jenkins (Edina, MN) and Jon Hill (Averill Park, NY) and junior A.J. Greco (Williamsville, NY) were each credited with assists. Fillman turned away 28 shots in the win. Amherst returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. against visiting ECAC East foe St. Michaelís College.
