Fifth-Seeded Jeffs Suffer 6-4 NESCAC Quarterfinal Loss at Fourth-Seeded Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME - The fifth-seeded Amherst College menís hockey team suffered a 6-4 NESCAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal loss at fourth-seeded Bowdoin College on Saturday. Four different players found the net for the Jeffs, who finish their season at 13-10-2, while Bowdoin improved to 16-5-3 and advances to the conference semifinals next weekend.

The host Polar Bears opened up a 2-0 lead in the opening frame and stretched it to 3-0 2:32 after the first intermission on a goal by James Gadon. Amherst rookie forward Kyle Schoppel (Cambridge, Ontario) finally put the Jeffs on the board 4:53 into the second, but Bowdoin answered with three more scores to build a 6-1 lead over the following eight minutes. Amherst rookie defenseman Michael McIntosh (Soldotna, AK) lit the lamp in the closing seconds of the second, and the Jeffs continued to rally in the third with goals from junior A.J. Greco (Williamsville, NY) and sophomore Sean Ellis (Springfield, MA) but couldnít overcome the deficit.

Amherst sophomore goalie Josh Fillman (Charlestown, MA) finished with 23 saves, while junior goalie George Papachristopoulos collected just 17 for Bowdoin.
