HARTFORD, CT & MIDDLETOWN, CT - Senior forward Scott Aldrich (Wilmington, MA) scored the game-winning goal with 5:24 left in regulation to lead the Amherst men's hockey team to a 5-3 win at previously unbeaten NESCAC foe Trinity College on Friday night. The Jeffs then posted a 4-2 win at Little Three and NESCAC rival Wesleyan University on Saturday, improving to 6-2-2 overall and 4-0-2 in conference play.

Trinity, which entered Friday night’s matchup ranked ninth in the nation, saw its eight-game winning streak fall by the wayside as they dropped to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the NESCAC. The visiting Jeffs also snapped Trinity’s nine-game unbeaten streak at home.

Trinity held a 2-1 lead after the opening period on goals by senior forwards Joseph Oriand and Ryan Stevens and extended its lead to 3-1 with 4:33 remaining in the second frame on a goal by junior forward Cameron Finch. The Jeffs pulled within one with three seconds on the clock on a power-play goal by senior co-captain forward Beau Kretzman (Edina, MN).

In the third period, the Amherst defense held Trinity to just four shots on goal, while senior forward Thierry Pauyo (Montreal, Quebec) stuffed a backhanded shot into the back of the net to even the score at 3-3 midway through the final stanza. Aldrich then wristed the game-clincher into the upper right corner on assists by sophomore defenseman Trevor Calamel (Lockport, NY) and senior forward Marc Russell (Essex, VT). Amherst freshman defenseman Michael McIntosh (Soldotna, Alaska) added an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Finch and Stevens finished with a goal and an assist for Trinity, while senior goalie Doug Kisielius made 30 saves. Amherst sophomore Josh Fillman (Charlestown, MA) stopped 32 shots to earn the win between the pipes, while Kretzman totaled a goal and an assist, and fellow senior co-captain Jon Hill (Averill Park, NY) notched two helpers.

In Saturday’s win at Wesleyan (2-9/2-4 NESCAC), Kretzman upped his team-leading scoring total to 19 points in just 10 games with a pair of assists, finding junior A.J. Greco (Williamsville, NY) and Calamel, while rookie Kyle Schoppel (Cambridge, Ontario) netted two goals as well. Aldrich also assisted on a goal by senior Bill Jenkins (Edina, MN), while Hill dished out a pair of assists in the win. Fillman tallied 28 saves for the Jeffs.

Amherst returns to action Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against visiting NESCAC rival Hamilton College.
