Schiel Named First-Team NABC All-America
July 13 - Amherst senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel was named First-Team NCAA Division III All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Schiel led Amherst to a 26-2 record and its third NESCAC Championship in the last five years, setting a school record with 19 straight victories and reaching its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament Round of 16. April 4 - Amherst senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel was named a First-Team Division III New England Menís Basketball All-Star by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), while junior teammate John Bedford earned honorable mention honors after helping the Jeffs to their third NESCAC crown in the last five years and their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16. March 22 - Amherst's Dave Hixon í75 was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Northeast Region Coach of the Year for the second straight season on Tuesday, while senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel was voted Northeast Region Player of the Year and First-Team All-Region, and junior guard John Bedford earned Second-Team NABC All-Northeast Region honors. March 17 - After leading the Amherst menís basketball team to a 26-2 record, its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Round of 16 and the programís third NESCAC Championship in the last five years, senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel and junior guard John Bedford were each named Division III All-Northeast Region by D3hoops.com. Second-Ranked Jeffs Bow to No. 21 Rochester 69-62 in NCAA Round of 16
March 11 - The second-ranked Amherst menís basketball team saw its season come to a screeching halt with a 69-62 loss to the visiting 21st-ranked University of Rochester in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 on Friday night. Rochester advances to Saturdayís national quarterfinals, also at Amherst, where theyíll face 22nd-ranked Potsdam State at 7 p.m. with a trip to the NCAA Final Four in Salem, Va. at stake. Potsdam won Friday nightís other NCAA Round of 16 matchup, 67-43, over third-ranked and previously undefeated St. John Fisher College. Full Story

NCAA Says Yes! Second-Ranked Amherst to Host NCAA Men's Basketball Regional
March 7 - After upending visiting Springfield College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Menís Basketball Championship Tournament on Saturday night, Amherst was named the host site for one of four (four-team) NCAA Sectionals this Friday and Saturday. Undefeated St. John Fisher College will take on Potsdam St. Friday at 6 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. matchup between the University of Rochester and Amherst. The winners will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. with a trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four in Salem, Va. at stake. Full Story

White-Hot Wheeler Wheels Second-Ranked Jeffs Past Springfield in NCAA Second Round
March 5 - Sophomore sharpshooter Dan Wheeler came off the bench for a career-high 19 points on scorching 6-for-6 shooting, including a 3-for-3 showing from three-point range, to lead second-ranked Amherst to an 81-68 win over visiting local rival Springfield College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Menís Basketball Championship Tournament on Saturday night. With the win, the Jeffs advance to the NCAA Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive year, where theyíll face the University of Rochester at a site to be determined. Full Story

Opponent Set For Saturday Night; Jeffs to Host Springfield in NCAA Tournament Second Round
March 4 - The second-ranked Amherst menís basketball team will host Springfield College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Saturday night at 7:00. The Jeffs (25-1) - who have never lost an NCAA Tournament game at LeFrak Gymnasium (6-0) - drew one of 16 first-round byes, while Springfield (22-6) advanced to the second round with Thursday nightís 72-63 home win over Norwich University. Jeffs Nab Slew of NESCAC Postseason Awards
March 3 - Amherst's Dave Hixon í75 was named the NESCAC Menís Basketball Coach of the Year (as selected by the conferenceís head coaches) on Thursday, while senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel was voted the conference Player of the Year and first-year point guard Andrew Olson shared NESCAC Co-Rookie of the Year honors with Conn. February 28 - Senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel was named the NESCAC Menís Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after leading second-ranked Amherst to its third conference championship in the last five years and an automatic bid to its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament. Schiel racked up 23 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in Sundayís 65-57 win over visiting Bates in the NESCAC Tournament title game, and tallied 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in Saturdayís 75-72 semifinal victory over visiting Trinity. Division III Pairings Announced; Second-Ranked Jeffs Draw First-Round Bye in NCAA Tournament
February 28 - After winning its third NESCAC Championship in the last five years, the second-ranked Amherst men's basketball team drew one of 16 first-round byes in the upcoming NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, for which pairings were announced late Sunday evening. Amherst, the lone NESCAC school to make the 48-team field, will host an NCAA second-round game this Saturday at 7 p.m. against the winner of Thursday nightís first-round matchup between Springfield College and Norwich University. February 27 - Behind 23 points, eight rebounds and five blocks from senior Andrew Schiel, the second-ranked and top-seeded Amherst menís basketball team entered familiar territory on Sunday, downing visiting No. 3 seed Bates College 65-57 in the title game of the NESCAC Championship Tournament. With their school-record 18th consecutive victory, the Jeffs (25-1) claimed their third conference title in the last five years and an automatic bid to their sixth straight NCAA Tournament, with pairings to be announced by the NCAA selection committee tonight at 10:30 EST. February 26 - Junior John Bedford and rookie Andrew Olson hit a pair of clutch jumpers down the stretch, and Bedford iced the game with two pressure-packed free throws in the waning seconds as the second-ranked, top-seeded Amherst menís basketball team advanced to its fifth consecutive NESCAC Tournament title game with a gut-wrenching 75-72 semifinal win over visiting fourth-seeded Trinity College on Saturday. Schiel One of Ten National Finalists for Jostens Trophy Player of the Year
February 25 - Amherst senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel was named one of ten national finalists for the Jostens Trophy, awarded annually to the outstanding menís and womenís basketball players in NCAA Division III. Third-Ranked, Top-Seeded Jeffs Set to Host NESCAC Semifinals, Championship
February 21 - The third-ranked and top-seeded Amherst menís basketball team will vie for its third conference championship and sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament when it hosts the NESCAC Tournament semifinals and championship game on Saturday and Sunday. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $2 for students with valid ID. Children under 10 are free. Third-Ranked, Top-Seeded Jeffs Survive NESCAC Tournament First-Round Scare Against Eighth-Seeded Bowdoin
February 19 - They say anything can happen in postseason play, and it almost did on Saturday. Hosting eighth-seeded Bowdoin College in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Menís Basketball Championship Tournament, top-seeded and third-ranked Amherst trailed 61-59 with 4:32 left in regulation but rebounded to eliminate the pesky Polar Bears 74-68 before a near capacity crowd at LeFrak Gymnasium. February 15 - The third-ranked, top-seeded Amherst menís basketball team will begin its quest for a third NESCAC Championship in the last five years and sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament this Saturday at 3 p.m. with a NESCAC Tournament quarterfinal matchup against visiting eighth-seeded Bowdoin College. Fourth-Ranked Jeffs Secure NESCAC Regular-Season Crown, Top Seed in NESCAC Tourney with 94-61 Pounding at Tufts
February 12 - Amherst posted an emphatic 94-61 victory at Tufts University on Saturday to win the NESCAC menís basketball regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. February 11 - Behind senior Andrew Schiel's game-high 28 points, the Amherst menís basketball team improved its winning streak to 14 games on Friday night, beating host Bates College 78-59 at Alumni Gymnasium. Ranked No. 4 in the latest D3hoops.com national poll, the Lord Jeffs are 21-1 and 8-0 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Full Story

Bedford Pours in Career-High 31 as Fourth-Ranked Jeffs Outlast Lasell
February 8 - You just can never tell whoíll step to the forefront for the fourth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team these days. On Friday night it was senior Russell Lee pouring in 20 points on five three-pointers in a 72-45 win over Williams. On Saturday it was junior John Casnocha narrowly missing out on his first career triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in a 105-73 win over Middlebury. On Tuesday evening it was junior John Bedfordís turn, as he racked up a career-high 31 points on scorching 11-for-13 shooting in a hard-fought 90-78 non-league victory over visiting Lasell College, which upped the Lord Jeffsí record to 20-1 with a win in their regular-season home finale. Casnocha Notches Near Triple-Double as Fourth-Ranked Jeffs Maul Middlebury
February 5 - Junior swingman John Casnocha nailed a half-court buzzer beater as time expired in the opening half and came perilously close to notching his first career triple-double with 16 points and game- and career-highs of 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead the fourth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team to a decisive 105-73 win over visiting NESCAC rival Middlebury on Saturday afternoon. Red-Hot Russell Torches Ephs
February 4 - Senior sharpshooter Russell Lee drained five three-pointers and poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the fourth-ranked Amherst men's basketball team to a dominating 72-45 win over visiting NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams in front of a raucous standing-room only crowd on Friday night. With the win, Amherst completed a regular-season sweep against Williams, improving to 18-1 overall and remaining undefeated in NESCAC play at 6-0. Full Story

Basketball Teams Set for Friday Night Twinbill Against Visiting Williams
February 3 - The Amherst men's and women's basketball teams will host Little Three rival Williams College in an all-important NESCAC doubleheader Friday evening at LeFrak Gymnasium. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow shortly thereafter. Both games will be Webcast live by campus radio station WAMH, with a brief pre-game show to air at approximately 5:20. Admission is $3 for adults, and tickets can be purchased at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Amherst and Williams students with valid ID and children under 10 will be admitted free. February 1 - In a game that featured 11 ties and 22 lead changes, the fourth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team survived one of its sternest tests of the season on Tuesday night, eaking out a hard-fought 65-61 non-league win over visiting Brandeis University. Amherst junior guard John Bedford led the way with 19 points, nine rebounds, four blocks, three steals and three assists, while senior co-captain Andrew Schiel added his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 boards. January 29 - Andrew Schiel and John Bedford each had 19 points and six rebounds to lead the fifth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team to an 85-58 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Amherst moved to 16-1 overall and 5-0 in the NESCAC, while Colby fell to 10-6 and 1-4 in the league. Full Story

January 28 - Thanks to a 26-point, seven-rebound effort from senior co-captain Andrew Schiel, the fifth-ranked Amherst men's basketball team survived an upset-minded Bowdoin squad on Friday evening, 69-60. The Jeffs improved to 15-1 on the season (4-0 in NESCAC play), while the Polar Bears dropped to 8-8 (0-4 NESCAC). Full Story

January 25 - Senior co-captain Andrew Schiel poured in 27 points on 10-for-12 shooting to lead the fifth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team past visiting non-conference foe Salve Regina University 87-56 on Tuesday night. O'Shea Drops the Hammer as Seventh-Ranked Jeffs Clobber Conn. College
January 22 - The seventh-ranked Amherst menís basketball team outrebounded NESCAC foe Conn. College 48-29, including a 21-6 margin on the offensive glass, and forced the visiting Camels into 17 turnovers en route to a convincing 84-50 conference win on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore center Dan OíShea poured in 14 points in the first half and finished with a career-high 16 points overall, while junior sharpshooters John Bedford and John Casnocha chipped in with 15 and 10 points respectively. Seventh-Ranked Jeffs Remain Undefeated in NESCAC Play, Clinch Outright Little Three Title with 68-58 Win Over Wesleyan
January 21 - The seventh-ranked Amherst menís basketball team clinched its first outright Little Three Championship since the 2000-01 season with a 68-58 NESCAC win over visiting Wesleyan University on Friday night. Junior guard John Bedford led the way with 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting as the Jeffs improved to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. January 18 - The seventh-ranked Amherst College menís basketball team shot 56.1% (37-for-66) and placed four players in double figures, led by senior co-captain Andrew Schielís game-high 20 points, en route to a one-sided 92-66 non-league win over visiting Elms College on Tuesday night. January 11 - The ninth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team held Little Three rival Wesleyan University to just 35.5% (18-for-51) shooting and harassed them into 21 turnovers en route to a lopsided 66-44 non-conference shellacking on Tuesday night. The Jeffs (9-1) placed 12 players in the scoring column, led by sophomore sharpshooter Dan Wheelerís team- and career-high 12 points, while every player on their active roster played at least four minutes. Fourth-Ranked Jeffs Deal No. 13 Williams Second Straight Loss, 88-78
January 8 - The fourth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team dealt 13th-ranked Little Three archrival Williams College (11-3) its second consecutive loss, upending the host Ephs 88-78 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday. The Jeffs, who never trailed in the game, improved to 8-1 with their first victory at Williams since a 73-64 win on January 13, 2001. Full Story

November 30 - Behind game-highs of 15 points and six assists from junior guard John Bedford, the eighth-ranked Amherst menís basketball team remained undefeated at 3-0 with a lopsided 71-44 win over visiting Clark University on Tuesday night. November 20 - With 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, a pair of blocks and two steals in just 18 minutes, senior forward Andrew Schiel earned Tournament MVP honors, leading the 11th-ranked Amherst College (2-0) menís basketball team to a lopsided 84-62 win over visiting Vassar College (1-1) in the championship game of the Fourth-Annual Ken Wright í52 Memorial Invitational on Saturday. November 19 - The 11th-ranked Amherst menís basketball team placed 16 players in the scoring column, led by 13-point outings from junior guard John Bedford and senior forward Andrew Schiel, en route to a season-opening 107-55 blowout win over visiting Medgar Evers College in the first round of the Fourth-Annual Ken Wright í52 Memorial Invitational Tournament on Friday night. November 12 - Amherst senior co-captain forward Andrew Schiel was named Second-Team Preseason All-America by D3hoops.com on Friday. Schiel was an Honorable Mention D3hoops.com All-America selection last season after leading Amherst to a school-record 27 wins and its first-ever trip to the NCAA Final Four. Full Story
