Vladeck Named NESCAC Player of the Week

May 16, 2005

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College junior hurler Joe Vladeck (Washington, DC) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Baseball Player of the Week after picking up a pair of wins and leading the Jeffs to their second consecutive conference championship.

Vladeck struck out six and allowed just two earned runs in six complete innings in Fridays NESCAC Tournament first-round win over Tufts University, and rebounded just two days later with 3.2 innings of stellar relief as Amherst upended fifth-ranked Trinity College 8-7 in 10 innings in the NESCAC title game, earning an automatic bid to their fifth NCAA Tournament.

The six-four, 220-pound right-hander leads the NESCAC in wins (7-1) and innings pitched (64.2) and stands second in ERA (1.67) and strikeouts (59). He was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Pitcher of the Week earlier this season after opening with a trio of wins in his first three appearances.

Amherst begins NCAA Regional play this Thursday at 7 p.m. against Wheaton College at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass.
