Harmeling, Shannon Reach Consolation Quarterfinals at CSA Women's Squash Individual Championships

CANTON, NY - Amherst College junior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) reached the consolation quarterfinals of the Ramsay Cup, for the top 36 nationally ranked players, while first-year Caroline Shannon (Hanover, NH) reached the consolation quarterfinals of the Holleran Cup, for players ranked 37th through 72nd, at the 2004 Womenís College Squash Association Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence University on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Harmeling dropped her opening match to top-seeded Amina Helal of Trinity College 9-4, 9-5, 9-2, but rebounded to upend Harvardís Lydia Williams in a grueling match, 10-8, 2-9, 9-7, 8-10, 9-3. She moved on to face Rachita Vora of Yale University in the consolation quarterfinals where she fell 9-3, 9-1, 9-4. Harmeling posted 19 individual match victories this season.

Shannon dropped her opening match to the top-seed and eventual champion, Clare Whipple of Williams College, 9-1, 9-0, 9-0, but rallied to defeat Bowdoin Collegeís Elieen Schneider, 10-9, 9-5, 9-1, in her opening consolation match. Shannon bowed to eighth-seeded Katie Irving of Bowdoin in the following round 9-0, 9-2, 9-1, and finished the year with 17 individual match victories.
