Second-Ranked Jeffs Hammer No. 17 Colby in NESCAC Opener, 18-10

BRUNSWICK, ME - Junior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) scored four goals and handed out six assists as the second-ranked Amherst College women’s lacrosse team opened its NESCAC slate and remained undefeated with a convincing 18-10 win over 18th-ranked Colby College on Saturday. The game was played at Bowdoin College due to poor field conditions at Colby.

Junior Cate Smith (Saint James, MD) added four goals and four assists for Amherst, which improved to 4-0. Senior Allison Aldrich (Cornwall, VT) finished with four goals as well, while sophomore Scotty Hanley (Sparks, MD) tallied a goal and two assists, and senior Jackie Sargent (Concord, MA) and rookie Lauren Dudley (Butler, MD) added two goals apiece. Amherst senior Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) chipped in with a goal and an assist. Junior goalie Olivia D’Ambrosio (Farmington, CT) racked up 11 saves and played all 60 minutes for the Jeffs.

Elizabeth Ghilardi (Norwell, MA) paced Colby (1-4) with three goals and an assist. Kate Wheeler (Baltimore, MD) added a trio of scoring strikes, while Kelsey Neville (Duxbury, MA) finished with two. Emma Miller (Wellesley, MA) and Allie Libby (Needham, MA) each had a goal and an assist for the White Mules.

Amherst returns to action Sunday at 11 a.m. at NESCAC rival Bates College.
