Head Coach Kay Cowperthwait
Kay Cowperthwait has been instrumental in the recent success of the women’s golf program, both as an assistant and since taking the head coaching reigns from Michelle Morgan in the fall of 2003. Cowperthwait, who helped guide the women’s golf team to a third-place finish at the 2002 NCAA Championship Tournament, served as head coach of the women’s hockey team for six seasons, leading the Jeffs to their first-ever postseason playoff berths in 2001-02 and 2002-03. She also worked as an assistant coach with the women’s lacrosse team and currently serves as the senior women’s administrator in the Amherst athletic department. Before arriving at Amherst, she spent five years as the head women's lacrosse coach at Division I Stanford University and was a standout two-sport athlete at NESCAC rival Colby College, captaining the women's ice hockey and lacrosse teams, twice earning team MVP honors in both sports before graduating in 1991.
