Billy McBride enters his 11th season as head coach of the women's basketball team with a 137-103 career record and a string of competitive teams and accomplished student-athletes to his credit. In the 2000-01 season, McBride was named both the NESCAC and the Russell Athletic/WBCA District I Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 23-5 record. The Syracuse, N.Y. native came to Amherst in 1990 after a stint as athletic director and head basketball and football coach at the Allen Stevenson School in New York City. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers after a standout two-sport playing career at Tennessee State University, McBride played six years in the Canadian Football League and was an All-City and All-Upstate New York football and basketball player as a prep all-star in Syracuse. He also led the Tennessee State basketball team to the NCAA Division II Final Four as a point guard in 1975. During the off-season, McBride coaches wide receivers for the Amherst football team.

Head Coach Lynne Cinella brings a wide breadth of experience to the women's basketball program. An Agawam, Mass. native, Cinella graduated from St. Michael's College in 1994, supplementing her undergraduate degree in political science with a standout NCAA Division II playing career. A point guard, Cinella was awarded a spot on her all-conference team her senior year after leading the Northeast-10 in finishing in the top-10 in the nation in assists. She also carved a spot in the St. Michael's record books - Cinella's 544 career assists tied what was at the time the school record. During her tenure, the Purple Knights made an appearance in the Northeast-10 Final Four and marked two postseason appearances in the ECAC Tournament. Cinella worked towards her M.B.A. at Sacred Heart University from 1994 to 1997, taking up residence as an assistant coach for the Division I women's basketball program. Since then, she has spent time in the administrative sector of athletics, working with former ABL franchise the New England Blizzard, New York City's WFAN Sports Radio and World Team Tennis Pro League's Hartford-based FOXFORCE.

Third-year assistant Lynn Hersey specializes in tutoring Amherst's point guards, among other duties, thanks to a standout playing career at Division III power Plymouth State College. She was a four-year starting point guard at Plymouth State, earning team Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman and the college's Female Athlete of the Year award as a senior captain. Upon graduating in 2000 with a degree in sports medicine, the Dexter, Maine native began her professional career working for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), helping oversee championships, marketing and broadcast services. She then earned a master's degree in sport management at nearby UMass Amherst and, this past season, lent her expertise as a marketing consultant to the Springfield Spirit of the National Women's Basketball League. Hersey also assists head coach Sue Everden with the Amherst softball and volleyball teams.
