Jeffs Fall Just Short in 53-51 Loss at 22nd-Ranked Wesleyan
January 20 - The Amherst College women's basketball team rallied back from an 18-point second-half deficit to cut the lead to just two points inside the final minute, but fell just short in Tuesday night's 53-51 non-league loss at Little Three rival Wesleyan University. Senior guard LaShauna Barboza paced the Jeffs with 13 points in defeat. Full Story

Jeffs Fall at Bowdoin, 77-46
January 17 - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back in a 77-46 win over visiting Amherst in NESCAC action on Saturday. The Polar Bears (13-0) extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 33 games, while the Jeffs drop to 8-6 on the year. Full Story

Jeffs Upended at Colby, 60-44
January 16 - Sarah Kelly had 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting and added eight rebounds to lead the Colby College women's basketball team to a 60-44 victory over Amherst in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium. The Mules improved to 7-7 overall and stand at 1-0 in the conference. Amherst falls to 8-5 overall and 0-1 in the league. Full Story

January 13 - The Amherst women’s basketball team downed visiting non-conference foe WPI 58-48 on Tuesday night. Senior quad-captain Shannon Russell scored a game-high 15 points, while sophomore forward Katie Latham posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and first-year Caroline Polales chipped in a career-high 10 points and six rebounds. Jeffs Drop 61-56 Loss to Williams
January 10 - The Amherst women’s basketball team fell to visiting NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College 61-56 on Saturday night. Williams first-year Margaret Miller led all scorers with 28 points as the Ephs improved to 9-1 with the win. Senior quad-captain Shannon Russell led the Jeffs with 15 points as Amherst dropped to 7-4. Full Story

Russell Nets 22, Leads Jeffs to 76-63 Win at Simmons
January 8 - Senior quad-captain Shannon Russell netted six threes en route to a season-best 22 points, as the Amherst women’s basketball team downed non-conference host Simmons College 76-63 on Wednesday night. Amherst sophomore Katie Latham chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds and senior quad-captain Marissa McGuire added 12 points and nine boards as the Jeffs improved to 7-3 with the win. Full Story

Jeffs Wrap Florida Trip with 71-57 Loss to Widener
December 30 - Despite a double-double 16-point, 12-rebound performance by sophomore forward Katie Latham, the Amherst women's basketball team posted its second loss in as many games at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida on Tuesday, falling 71-57 to Widener University. Full Story

Jeffs Fall to Muhlenberg 88-71 at Land of Magic Classic
December 29 - The Amherst women’s basketball team saw a seven-point first-half lead fall by the wayside in a hard-fought 88-71 loss to undefeated Muhlenberg College (6-0) in the first round of the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida on Monday. Amherst (6-2) placed three players in double figures, led by senior guard Shannon Russell’s game- and season-high 18 points. Full Story

December 10 - The Amherst women’s basketball team improved to 6-1 defeating non-conference foe Smith College 71-49 on Wednesday night. Senior quad-captains Shannon Russell and Marissa McGuire led the Jeffs with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Full Story

Jeffs Steamroll WNEC in Final Round of Pioneer Valley Classic
December 6 - After edging Springfield College 60-59 on Friday night, Amherst steamrolled visiting Western New England College (WNEC) 84-59 on Saturday in the final round of the Third-Annual Pioneer Valley Women’s Basketball Classic. In other tournament action (also at Amherst), Springfield edged Westfield State College 51-50 on a last-second shot by senior guard Kelly McOmber. Full Story

Jeffs Edge Springfield 60-59 in First Round of Pioneer Valley Classic
December 5 - Senior guard Marissa McGuire drained a jumper from just inside the three-point line with six seconds left in regulation to give Amherst a dramatic 60-59 win over visiting Springfield College in the first round of the Third-Annual Pioneer Valley Women’s Basketball Classic on Friday. In other first-round action, Westfield State College improved to 4-0 with a convincing 57-35 win over Western New England College, which fell to 1-3 with the loss. Full Story

December 3 - The Amherst women’s basketball team overcame 31 turnovers by holding Keene State College to just 24.6% (16-for-65) shooting on Wednesday night, sealing a 61-55 non-league victory over the visiting Owls. Amherst improved to 3-1 with the win, while Keene St. fell to 3-2. Full Story

November 25 - Despite 11 points from senior center Caitlin Farrell and 10 points and seven rebounds from classmate Marissa McGuire, the Amherst women’s basketball team fell to 2-1 with its first loss of the season on Tuesday night - a 70-50 setback at non-league for Mt. Holyoke College. Full Story

McGuire Earns Tournament MVP, Leads Jeffs to Vassar Invitational Championship with 59-40 Win Over Host Brewers
November 22 - Senior quad-captain Marissa McGuire’s 12 points, 12 rebounds and six assists led the Amherst women’s basketball team to a 59-40 win over Vassar College in the championship game of the Vassar Invitational on Saturday. McGuire was named tourney MVP, while sophomore guard Ali Flato earned All-Tournament honors as Amherst improved to 2-0. Full Story

Jeffs Open Season with 85-44 Win Over John Jay at Vassar Invitational
November 21 - Sophomore forward Julie Smith came off the bench to tally a career-high 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as the Amherst women’s basketball team blasted John Jay College 85-44 in the first round of the Vassar Invitational Tournament on Friday. With the win, the Jeffs advance to the tournament championship game, where they’ll face host Vassar Saturday at 3 p.m. Full Story
