Jeffs Wrap Florida Trip with 71-57 Loss to Widener

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Despite a double-double 16-point, 12-rebound performance by sophomore forward Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA), the Amherst women's basketball team posted its second loss in as many games at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida on Tuesday, falling 71-57 to Widener University.

Sophomore Kristine Morin (Litchfield, NH) and senior Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA) joined Latham in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Morin added a game-high five assists, which matched her career high, while senior Marissa McGuire (Minneapolis, MN) chipped in with nine rebounds. The Jeffs fell to 6-3 with the loss, while Widener improved to 6-3.

Amherst shot just 25.0% (8-for-32) in the opening period, including an 0-for-7 showing from three-point range, en route to a 30-24 halftime deficit. Nikki Carden paced three Widener players in double figures with 17 points. Widenerís Erin Nemshick helped the cause with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. at non-league foe Simmons College in Boston.
