Jeffs Open Season with 85-44 Win Over John Jay at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Sophomore forward Julie Smith (Villanova, PA) came off the bench to tally a career-high 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as the Amherst College women’s basketball team blasted John Jay College 85-44 in the first round of the Vassar Invitational Tournament on Friday.

The Jeffs jumped out to an early 11-2 lead en route to a 45-18 advantage at the break. Sophomore guard Kristine Morin (Litchfield, NH) joined Smith in double figures with a career-high 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting, while senior guard Marissa McGuire (Minneapolis, MN) added nine points and nine boards and sophomore guard Ali Flato (Piedmont, CA) chipped in with nine points and eight assists.

With the win, Amherst advances to the tournament championship game, where they’ll face host Vassar Saturday at 3 p.m.
