Jeffs Upended at Clark, 75-51

WORCESTER, MA - The Amherst College women’s basketball team dropped its fifth straight with a 75-51 loss at non-conference foe Clark University on Thursday night. Clark placed four players in double figures, led by graduate student Rachael Turkington with 13 points. Amherst sophomore Kristine Morin (Litchfield, NH) led the Jeffs in scoring for the second consecutive game with nine points, while classmate Julie Smith (Villanova, PA) scored seven points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Amherst built a seven-point lead in the opening minutes, but Clark took an 18-17 advantage with 7:29 remaining and never trailed again. The Cougars started the second half with a 29-11 run and built their lead as high as 33 points. Also scoring in double figures for the hosts were sophomore Brittney Wickles, and first-years Ashley Auclair and Jess Lamothe.

Amherst senior quad-captain Caitlin Farrell (Lafayette, CA) had eight boards and three blocks, and sophomore Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA) also nabbed eight rebounds as the Jeffs fell to 9-12. Clark improved to 15-4.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. at NESCAC rival Trinity College.
