Jeffs Manage Just One Hit in 2-0 Loss at Springfield

FROM A SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE RELEASE

April 28, 2004

SPRINGFIELD, MA - Springfield hurler Amy Brucker came within one out of pitching a no-hitter on Wednesday, tossing a complete-game 2-0 shutout against the visiting Amherst softball team. Rookie third baseman Caroline Polales (Winnetka, IL) notched the lone hit for Amherst, spoiling Bruckerís no-hit bid with two outs in the seventh inning as Springfield improved to 21-15, while the Jeffs dropped to 13-14.

Following a lead off walk by Amherst sophomore Laura Trigeiro (Reston, VA) in the first inning, Brucker retired the next 20 batters in a row en route to her 12th win of the year. Juniors Laurie Cersosimo and Jackie Agrillo each went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the hosts, while sophomore Caitlyn McGaghey had an RBI double.

Amherst first-year Hilary Little (Kentfield, CA) threw five innings, surrendering six hits and just one earned run, and sophomore Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) struck out the side in her lone inning of work. Little took the loss, falling to 3-8 on the year.

No date has been announced for the Jeffs final regular-season contest against Westfield State College. The game, originally scheduled for April 14, has been postponed twice and may not be rescheduled.
