Warner, Little Toss Shutouts as Jeffs Sweep NESCAC Double-Dip at Hamilton

April 17, 2004

CLINTON, NY - Sophomore Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) and rookie Hilary Little (Kentfield, CA) each tossed complete-game shutouts on Saturday as the Amherst College softball team swept a key NESCAC West Division doubleheader at Hamilton College, winning the opener 10-0 and the nightcap 5-0. Amherst upped its record to 13-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Hamilton fell to 5-14 and 0-6.

The Jeffs pounded out 14 hits in Game 1, which was called after six innings due to the NCAA 10-run rule. Sophomore first baseman Laura Trigeiro (Oakland, CA) led the way with a double, two singles, three RBIs and two runs scored. First-year third-baseman Caroline Polales (Winnetka, IL) added a two-run double in the sixth inning, while senior second baseman Gina Scribner (Star, ID) plated a trio of runs on three singles. Junior catcher Greta Anderson (Newtown, PA) added three singles as well, and senior captain centerfielder Jess Allen (Chagrin Falls, OH) finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Warner scattered three hits and struck out nine, upping her pitching record to 10-5 with her 35th career complete game in just two seasons.

Little (3-5) was similarly impressive in Game 2, surrendering just six hits en route to her second straight complete-game shutout. Amherst’s offense clicked as well. Scribner helped pace the Jeffs again with two singles and an RBI. Rookie shortstop Annalise Rodli (La Canada, CA) added two singles, an RBI and two runs scored.

Amherst returns to action next Saturday at noon with a crucial NESCAC West Division doubleheader at Williams College.
