Jeffs Win Extra-Inning Thriller at Clark

WORCESTER, MA - Playing for the first time in New England after a nine-game Florida swing, the Amherst College softball team improved to 6-4 with a thrilling 10-3 non-league win at Clark University (7-2) in extra innings on Thursday. Amherst surrendered a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, which knotted the score at 3-3, but rebounded with a backbreaking seven-run barrage in the top of the eighth to seal the victory.
The Jeffs pounded out 15 hits on the afternoon. Senior second baseman Gina Scribner (Star, ID) led the way with three hits, including a two-run double in the eighth inning. Sophomore left fielder Rachel Hoerger (Oakland, CA) scored two runs and plated two more on three singles and a sacrifice fly. Sophomore first baseman Laura Trigeiro (Reston, VA) added a pair of singles and three runs scored from the leadoff spot.
Amherst sophomore flamethrower Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) improved to 5-1 with a complete-game, eight-strikeout, four-hit pitching performance.
The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. with a NESCAC West Division doubleheader against visiting Middlebury College.
