Jeffs Defeat SUNY Brockport, Fall to Mount St. Joseph

FORT MYERS, FL - The Amherst College softball team defeated SUNY Brockport, 5-3, behind a 12-strikeout performance from sophomore fireballer Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA), but fell to the College of Mount St. Joseph, 6-3, in Fort Myers, Florida on Friday. Amherst senior Gina Scribner (Star, ID) led the Jeffs offensively, with a combined three hits and four RBIís.

Warner improved to 4-1 with the win, allowing just three runs on six hits. Scribner did most of the offensive damage against Brockport, going 2-for-4 with a bases-loaded triple for the Jeffs, while first-year Caroline Polales (Winnetka, IL) and sophomore Laura Trigeiro (Reston, VA) each had a pair of hits.

Sophomore outfielder Rachel Hoerger (Oakland, CA) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss to Mt. St. Joseph, and Scribner and first-year Hilary Little (Kentfield, CA) posted 1-for-3 performances, each collecting an RBI as well. Little suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on 12 hits, and striking out six in seven innings of work.

The Jeffs finish their spring break trip 5-4 and return to action Thursday at 4 p.m. at non-conference foe Clark University.
