Warner Named Second-Team Academic All-District
May 12 - Amherst softball pitcher Miya Warner was named Second-Team Academic All-District 1 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday. Warner, a sophomore majoring in history and French, posted a 10-7 record and finished third in the NESCAC in wins, fourth in strikeouts (136), fifth in innings pitched (118) and seventh in ERA (1.36). She was also second in the NESCAC and 21st in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings (8.1). Full Story

Scribner Named Second-Team All-NESCAC
May 6 - Amherst softball standout Gina Scribner was named Second-Team All-NESCAC on Thursday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. Scribner, a senior second baseman, batted .268 on the year and led the Jeffs with 15 RBIs. Full Story

Jeffs Manage Just One Hit in 2-0 Loss at Springfield
April 28 - Springfield hurler Amy Brucker came within one out of pitching a no-hitter on Wednesday, tossing a complete-game 2-0 shutout against the visiting Amherst softball team. Rookie third baseman Caroline Polales notched the lone hit for Amherst, spoiling Brucker’s no-hit bid with two outs in the seventh inning as Springfield improved to 21-15, while the Jeffs dropped to 13-14. Warner Tosses Gem but Amherst Softball Falls at Streaking WNEC, 1-0
April 27 - Despite a complete-game five-hit pitching performance by sophomore fireballer Miya Warner, the Amherst softball team dropped a 1-0 decision at red-hot non-league foe Western New England College (WNEC) on Tuesday. The Jeffs fell victim to an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning, evening their record at 13-13, while WNEC improved to 33-9, shattering a school record with its 28th consecutive victory. Jeffs Swept by Williams, 1-0, 7-2
April 24 - The Amherst softball team was swept by visiting NESCAC West and Little Three archrival Williams College on Saturday, 1-0 and 7-2. Williams sophomore Liz Gluck led the Ephs, tossing a one-hit shutout in Game 1, and going 4-for-4 at the plate in Game 2 with a home run and three RBIs. Amherst fell to 13-12 (4-4 NESCAC West) with the losses and was eliminated from playoff contention, while Williams improved to 25-6 (7-1 NESCAC West) and secured the right to host the NESCAC Championship Tournament next weekend. Warner, Little Toss Shutouts as Jeffs Sweep NESCAC Double-Dip at Hamilton
April 17 - Sophomore Miya Warner and rookie Hilary Little each tossed complete-game shutouts on Saturday as the Amherst softball team swept a key NESCAC West Division doubleheader at Hamilton College, winning the opener 10-0 and the nightcap 5-0. Amherst upped its record to 13-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Hamilton fell to 5-14 and 0-6. Full Story

Warner Fans 15 as Jeffs Down Brandeis, 6-1
April 16 - Sophomore hurler Miya Warner struck out a career-high 15 batters as the Amherst Softball team downed non-conference host Brandeis University 6-1 on Friday. Warner fanned the side in the first three innings, stranding three Brandeis runners in the third as Amherst improved to 11-10, while Brandeis fell to 8-15. Full Story

Jeffs Drop Doubleheader to Bowdoin
April 10 - The Amherst softball team suffered a pair of losses to visiting Bowdoin College in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, 3-0 and 4-2. Bowdoin senior Erin Hanley tossed a complete game two-hitter in the opener to improve to 4-4 on the year, and in Game 2, sophomore Sarah Thomas had a two-run single in the top of the eighth to give the Polar Bears the win as they improved to 13-6 overall. Amherst sophomore Laura Trigeiro posted a combined four hits and an RBI as the Jeffs fell to 10-10. Full Story

Little Hurls One-Hitter, Pitches Jeffs Past WPI, 1-0
April 7 - First-year pitcher Hilary Little tossed a one-hit shutout and picked up her second victory of the season as the Amherst softball team downed visiting non-conference opponent Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) 1-0 on Wednesday. Amherst sophomore Laura Trigeiro went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored the lone run for the Jeffs, who improved to 10-8 with the win. Full Story

Polales Leads Jeffs Past Mt. Holyoke, 3-2
April 6 - First-year Caroline Polales smashed her first collegiate home run to lead the Amherst softball team to a 3-2 victory over visiting non-conference foe Mt. Holyoke College on Tuesday. The two-run blast broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning and sophomore hurler Miya Warner held off a Mt. Holyoke rally in the seventh, earning her eighth victory of the year. Full Story

Jeffs Win NESCAC Double Dip at Wesleyan
April 3 - The Amherst softball team used a pair of complete-game pitching performances by sophomore hurler Miya Warner to sweep a conference doubleheader at NESCAC West Division rival Wesleyan University on Saturday, winning the opener 4-2 and the nightcap 7-5. Amherst evened its league record at 2-2 and improved to 8-8 overall with the pair of wins. Full Story

Jeffs Drop Non-League Pair to Smith
March 29 - The Amherst softball team dropped a non-league doubleheader to visiting Smith College on Monday afternoon, losing the opener 1-0 in extra innings and the nightcap 7-4. The Jeffs fell to 6-8 with the pair of losses, while Smith improved to 14-2 after opening the season at 12-0. Full Story

Jeffs Drop NESCAC Twinbill to Middlebury
March 27 - The Amherst softball team fell victim to a pair of complete-game shutout pitching performances by junior hurler Megan McCarthy on Saturday afternoon, dropping a NESCAC West Division doubleheader to visiting Middlebury College, 3-0 and 8-0. McCarthy tossed a one-hitter in the nightcap after surrendering just four hits in the opener, improving her pitching record to 3-2. Full Story

Jeffs Win Extra-Inning Thriller at Clark
March 25 - Playing for the first time in New England after a nine-game Florida swing, the Amherst softball team improved to 6-4 with a thrilling 10-3 non-league win at Clark University (7-2) in extra innings on Thursday. Amherst surrendered a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, which knotted the score at 3-3, but rebounded with a backbreaking seven-run barrage in the top of the eighth to seal the victory. Jeffs Defeat SUNY Brockport, Fall to Mount St. Joseph
March 19 - The Amherst softball team defeated SUNY Brockport, 5-3, behind a 12-strikeout performance from sophomore fireballer Miya Warner, but fell to the College of Mount St. Joseph, 6-3, in Fort Myers, Florida on Friday. Amherst senior Gina Scribner led the Jeffs offensively, with a combined three hits and four RBI’s. Full Story

Jeffs Shutout by Fitchburg State, Worcester State
March 18 - The Amherst softball team suffered shutout losses to Fitchburg State College, 4-0, and Worcester State College, 9-0, in Fort Myers, Florida on Thursday. The Jeffs drop to 4-3 as sophomore hurler Miya Warner sustained her first loss of the season despite striking out seven against Fitchburg. Full Story

Jeffs Edge Salem State, 2-1, Rained Out Against Roger Williams
March 16 - The Amherst softball team earned a narrow 2-1 victory over Salem State College in Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday, while the Jeffs’ contest against Roger Williams University was rained out in the first inning. Amherst sophomore hurler Miya Warner improved to 3-0 with the win over Salem, surrendering just two hits and striking out six. Full Story

Jeffs Off to 3-1 Start with Trio of Florida Wins
March 15 - The Amherst softball team jumped out to a 3-1 start in Fort Myers, Florida, with a 2-0 win over Framingham State and a 9-1 loss to St. Lawrence on Sunday, followed by a pair of shutout wins on Monday - 1-0 over Defiance and 3-0 over Lasell. Monday’s wins were marked be a pair of outstanding pitching performances, as sophomore fireballer Miya Warner struck out six en route to a complete-game two-hitter in the opener. Rookie hurler Hilary Little then evened her record at 1-1 with a complete-game six-hitter in the nightcap. Full Story

Youthful Jeffs Look for Breakout Season in 2004
Janurary 20 - Lone returning senior Jess Allen leads a youthful Amherst softball team into action this spring. Highlighting the list of underclassmen is sophomore pitcher Miya Warner, who earned First-Team All-NESCAC honors last spring while leading the conference in a bevy of statistical categories.
