Allison Shines at USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game
June 15 - Amherst senior co-captain Mike Allison was named the Most Valuable Player at the 63rd Annual United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III North-South Senior All-Star Game Saturday afternoon at Nazareth College. Allison scored a goal, dished out three assists and won 13 of 23 face-offs in leading the North All-Stars to a hard-fought 18-14 victory. Full Story

Jeffs Place Three on STX/USILA All-America Team
June 1 - The Amherst menís lacrosse team placed three players on the 2004 STX Division III Honorable Mention All-America Team, as selected by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) - first-year attackman Derek Cherney, sophomore midfielder Andrew Wilcox and junior defenseman Greg Donohue. Cherney Named New England Rookie of the Year; Jeffs Place Five on All-New England Team
May 18 - Five Amherst menís lacrosse players were named First- and Second-Team All-New England on Tuesday, led by first-year attackman Derek Cherney, who earned New England Rookie of the Year honors. In all, Amherst placed two players on the first team - sophomore long-stick midfielder Andrew Wilcox and junior defenseman Greg Donohue - and three on the second - Cherney, senior midfielder Mike Allison and junior goalie Cushing Donelan. Cherney Named NESCAC Rookie of the Year; Amherst Places Six on All-NESCAC Team
May 13 - Amherst placed six players on the 2004 Menís Lacrosse All-NESCAC team, which was announced by the conference office on Thursday, highlighted by first-year attackman Derek Cherney, who was named both First-Team All-NESCAC and NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Full Story

14th-Ranked Jeffs Fall to Fourth-Ranked Middlebury in NESCAC Tournament Semifinals
May 8 - The 14th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team fell victim to a 28-minute scoring drought en route to a 7-2 loss at fourth-ranked Middlebury College in the semifinal round of the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament on Saturday. Amherst junior Colby Griffith and rookie Derek Cherney each scored in the loss as the Jeffs dropped to 11-5 and await word of a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Full Story

Griffith's Game-Winner Leads Jeffs to 6-5 NESCAC Quarterfinal Win Over Bowdoin
May 2 - Junior Colby Griffith netted the game-winning score with 2:09 left in regulation to lead the Amherst menís lacrosse team to a 6-5 NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinal victory over visiting Bowdoin College on Sunday. The Jeffs advance to the conference semifinals next weekend, where theyíll face top-seeded host Middlebury College. Full Story

17th-Ranked Jeffs Earn No. 4 Seed in NESCAC Tourney with 11-9 Win Over Williams
May 1 - The 17th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team held off a fourth-quarter rally from visiting NESCAC and Little Three archrival Williams College to earn an 11-9 victory on Saturday. Amherst junior attackman Alex Casertano netted four goals, including three in a row to open the second half, as the Jeffs conclude the regular season at 10-4 (6-3 NESCAC). Amherst secured the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Championship Tournament with the win and will host fifth-seeded Bowdoin College tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 p.m. Full Story

17th-Ranked Jeffs Win Second Straight, Upend Conn. College, 14-9
April 27 - The 17th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team won its second consecutive NESCAC contest on Tuesday, upending host Connecticut College, 14-9. Amherst senior co-captain Mike Allison, who notched his 100th career point in last Saturdayís 11-2 rout at Bowdoin College, netted a trio of goals, as did junior Alex Casertano as the Jeffs improved to 9-4 (5-3 NESCAC) and moved into fourth place in conference standings. Donelan Named Division III National Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse
April 27 - Amherst menís lacrosse goalie Cushing Donelan was named the Division III National Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse on Tuesday. Donelan, who leads the NESCAC with a 6.48 goals against average, tallied 14 saves in Saturdayís 11-2 upset win at then tenth-ranked Bowdoin College, holding the normally high-powered Polar Bears to their lowest single-game scoring output since 1980. 20th-Ranked Jeffs Drop Second Straight, Edged at No. 14 Tufts, 11-10
April 21 - The 20th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team faltered in its second consecutive NESCAC tilt, suffering a narrow 11-10 defeat at Tufts University on Wednesday. Amherst fought back from a two-goal halftime deficit to tie the game on a goal from first-year Derek Cherney just over four minutes into the final frame, but Tufts junior Devin Clarke netted the game-winner with 4:49 remaining in regulation to give the Jumbos the victory. 12th-Ranked Jeffs Falter at Wesleyan, 9-7
April 17 - The 12th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team fell at NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University 9-7 on Saturday. Wesleyan sophomore Glenn Adams netted the game-winner with just 1:27 remaining, and junior goalie Matt Wheeler collected two of his game-high 12 saves in the closing seconds as the Cardinals improved to 9-2 (3-2 NESCAC). Senior co-captain Mike Allison and junior Josh Cherney each scored twice for Amherst, which fell to 7-3 (3-2 NESCAC). Amherst junior Alex Casertano dished out an assist as well, earning his 100th career point in the loss. Full Story

12th-Ranked Jeffs Pound WNEC, 13-7
April 15 - The 12th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team exploded for six third-quarter goals en route to a 13-7 victory over visiting non-conference foe Western New England College (WNEC) on Thursday. Amherst junior Joaquin Walker netted two of his team-high three goals during the outburst, while classmate Alex Casertano and senior co-captain Mike Allison each scored twice as the Jeffs improved to 7-2 overall. 16th-Ranked Jeffs Suffer Narrow Defeat at No. 2 Middlebury, 7-6
April 10 - The 16th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team suffered a narrow 7-6 defeat at second-ranked NESCAC rival Middlebury College on Saturday. The two squads battled to a 6-6 tie after three quarters of play, but Middlebury netted the lone goal of the final frame, remaining undefeated at 8-0 (4-0 NESCAC), while Amherst fell for the first time in conference play, dropping to 6-2 overall (3-1 NESCAC). 16th-Ranked Jeffs Upend Endicott, 12-8
April 8 - Using a balanced scoring attack, the Amherst menís lacrosse team upended non-conference host Endicott College 12-8 on Thursday. Eight different players found the net for Amherst, including senior co-captain Mike Allison, juniors Alex Casertano and Colby Griffith and sophomore Kevin Boova, who each scored twice as the Jeffs improved to 6-1. Donelan Named NESCAC Player of the Week
April 5 - Junior goalie Cushing Donelan was named the NESCAC Menís Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday after leading 19th-ranked Amherst to a pair of key conference wins over Bates and Colby. Donelan collected nine saves in Wednesdayís 7-6 win over visiting Bates and played one of the best games of his career on Saturday, finishing with 11 saves in a 10-4 win over visiting Colby. 19th-Ranked Jeffs Remain Tied Atop NESCAC with 10-4 Win Over Colby
April 3 - Behind a stifling defense and a trio of two-goal games by rookie Chris Hoffman and juniors Joaquin Walker and Alex Casertano, the 19th-ranked Amherst men's lacrosse team remained tied atop the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a convincing 10-4 win over visiting Colby College Saturday afternoon at UMass Amherst Garber Field. The Jeffs improved to 5-1 overall and remained undefeated in conference play at 3-0. Colby fell to 4-2 and 1-2. Full Story

No. 19 Jeffs Edge Bates, 7-6
March 31 - The 19th-ranked Amherst menís lacrosse team braved a torrential downpour and edged visiting NESCAC foe Bates College, 7-6, at Western New England College on Wednesday night. Amherst first-year Derek Cherney thrived in the rain, scoring five times, including the game-tying goal, and dishing out the game-winning assist to junior Andrew Syfu. The Jeffs improved to 4-1 (2-0 NESCAC), while Bates suffered its second consecutive one-goal loss, falling to 2-3 (1-2 NESCAC). Full Story

Saturday's Game Against Visiting Colby Moved to UMass Amherst
March 31 - The 19th-ranked Amherst College menís lacrosse team will host NESCAC rival Colby College Saturday (April 3) at 1:30 p.m. at UMass Amherst Garber Field - a game that was originally scheduled at Amherst College Hitchcock Field at 1 p.m. The Jeffs are 3-1 (1-0 NESCAC) after winning last Saturdayís conference opener at Trinity College. Jeffs Open NESCAC Slate with 13-7 Win at Trinity
March 27 - Freshman attackman Derek Cherney scored four goals to lead the Amherst Lord Jeffs to a 13-7 win over the Trinity College Bantams in menís lacrosse action this afternoon at Jessee/Miller Field. Trinity, ranked No. 7 in New England, falls to 3-2 (1-1 NESCAC), while Amherst, ranked No. 6 in New England, improves to 3-1 (1-0 NESCAC). Full Story

Jeffs Suffer First Loss, Fall to Nazareth, 11-9
March 19 - The Amherst menís lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Nazareth College, 11-9, in Orlando, Florida on Friday. Amherst junior Joaquin Walker had three goals and two assists, and senior co-captain Mike Allison posted two goals and an assist as the Jeffs fell to 2-1 with the loss. Full Story

Jeffs Post 13-7 Victory Over Keene State
March 17 - The Amherst menís lacrosse team improved to 2-0 with its 13-7 victory over non-conference opponent Keene State College in Clermont, Florida on Wednesday. Amherst first-year Derek Cherney and juniors Andrew Syfu and Alex Casertano led the way offensively, netting two goals apiece, while Syfu dished out three assists, Casertano dealt two and Cherney had one. Jeffs Open Season With 13-4 Rout Over Kenyon
March 16 - The Amherst menís lacrosse team opened its season with a 13-4 rout over non-conference foe Kenyon College in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday. Amherst first-year attackman Derek Cherney paced the Jeffs with three goals and an assist, while junior attackman Andrew Syfu netted two goals and dished out three assists, and junior netminder Cushing Donelan collected 18 saves. Jeffs Poised for 2004 NESCAC Title Run
February 9 - Senior co-captains Mike Allison and Alexi Kudla lead a youthful Amherst men's lacrosse team this spring. After graduating only four seniors in 2003, the Jeffs are set to make a run at the NESCAC title. Amherst opens its season Tuesday, March 16 against Kenyon College in Orlando, Florida. Full Preview
