Donelan Named Division III National Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College menís lacrosse goalie Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) was named the Division III National Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse on Tuesday. Donelan, who leads the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a 6.48 goals against average, tallied 14 saves in Saturdayís 11-2 upset win at then tenth-ranked Bowdoin College, holding the normally high-powered Polar Bears to their lowest single-game scoring output since 1980.

Donelan, a junior, surrendered one goal in the first quarter, another in the fourth and nothing in between, allowing Amherst to take control with a backbreaking 7-0 flurry. Ranked 17th in the latest national poll, Amherst improved to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play with the win.

Donelan was also named the NESCAC Player of the Week on April 5, collecting nine saves in a 7-6 win over visiting Bates College and 11 saves in a 10-4 win over visiting Colby.

Amherst returns to action today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m. at NESCAC foe Connecticut College before finishing the regular season Saturday at 1 p.m. against visiting NESCAC and Little Three rival Williams College. The seven-team NESCAC Championship Tournament kicks off this Sunday with times and matchups yet to be determined. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
