16th-Ranked Jeffs Upend Endicott, 12-8

April 8, 2004

BEVERLY, MA - Using a balanced scoring attack, the Amherst College men’s lacrosse team upended non-conference host Endicott College 12-8 on Thursday. Eight different players found the net for Amherst, including senior co-captain Mike Allison (W. Nyack, NY), juniors Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) and Colby Griffith (Lexington, MA) and sophomore Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ), who each scored twice as the Jeffs improved to 6-1.

Amherst raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but stumbled in the second frame as Endicott outscored the Jeffs 4-2 to cut the Jeffs’ halftime lead to two, 6-4. The two squads battled to a draw in the third, scoring three goals apiece, but the Jeff’s defense stepped up in the final session, allowing just one more goal. The Jeffs tacked on three more goals in the fourth to pull away and secure the win. Also scoring for Amherst were sophomores Graham Lake (Washington, DC) and Sean Murray (Madison, NJ), and first-years Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) and Rob Madden (New Haven, CT). Cherney dished out a game-high three assists as well, while casertano and classmate Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN) dealt two each, and senior co-captain Alexei Kudla (Bethesda, MD) and sophomore Ben Lavely (Louisville, KY) each had one.

Amherst junior Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT), the reigning NESCAC Player of the Week, had nine saves in his fourth consecutive win in goal.

The Jeffs return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. at second-ranked NESCAC foe Middlebury College.
