Donelan Named NESCAC Player of the Week

April 5, 2004

AMHERST, MA - Junior goalie Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday after leading 19th-ranked Amherst College to a pair of key conference wins over Bates and Colby. The Jeffs improved to 5-1 overall and remained tied for first place in the NESCAC at 3-0 in conference play.

Donelan collected nine saves in Wednesday’s 7-6 win over visiting Bates and played one of the best games of his career on Saturday, finishing with 11 saves in a 10-4 win over visiting Colby, including a spectacular point-blank stop on a Matt Roland shot midway through the final quarter. Donelan leads the NESCAC in both save percentage (.697) and goals against average (5.78), surrendering just 33 goals in 342 minutes.

Amherst returns to action Thursday at 5 p.m. at non-league foe Endicott College before traveling to second-ranked three-time defending NESCAC Champion Middlebury College (6-0/3-0 NESCAC) Saturday at 2 p.m.
