Jeffs Suffer First Loss, Fall to Nazareth, 11-9

ORLANDO, FL - The Amherst College menís lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Nazareth College, 11-9, in Orlando, Florida on Friday. Amherst junior Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO) had three goals and two assists, and senior co-captain Mike Allison (W. Nyack, NY) posted two goals and an assist as the Jeffs fell to 2-1 with the loss.

Nazareth led the entire first half as Amherst could muster just two goals in the opening sessions. The Jeffs came back in the third quarter, outscoring the Golden Flyers 4-3 and cutting the lead to one, but could not tie the game. Nazareth netted four fourth-quarter goals and held on for the win. Also scoring for Amherst were juniors Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) and Colby Griffith (Lexington, MA), sophomore Andrew Wilcox (Ancramdale, NY) and first-year Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY). Junior Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN) dished out his team-high sixth assist of the year, and sophomore Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ) dealt his second.

Amherst junior goalie Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) collected 17 saves in the loss.

The Jeffs open their NESCAC slate at Trinity College Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m.
