Hamill Breaks School Record at Terrier Classic, Amherst Runners Shine at Wesleyan Invitational

BOSTON, MA & MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst men and womenís indoor track teams posted outstanding individual performances at the Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University on Friday, and the Wesleyan University Invitational on Saturday. Amherst junior All-American Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) broke the school record in the 5,000-meter run and earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship meet with a time of 16:32.45 at the Terrier Classic, while sophomores Ariel Haney (Fairport, NY) and Lyndsey Scott (West Orange, NJ) tied for the school record in the high jump with a height of 5í2Ē at Wesleyan.

Hamillís time earned her seventh place overall, while first-year Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) and senior tri-captain Aly Venti (Newton, MA) placed 20th and 21st, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run at BU. Garrahan finished with a time of 9:56.67 and Venti crossed the finish line less than a second later at 9:57.37.

Along with their first-place tie in the high jump, Haney and Scott teamed with junior tri-captain Monica Westin (Lexington, KY) and sophomore Julia Rucker (Minneapolis, MN) to win the 4x400-meter relay. Scott also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash, and Westin claimed seventh in the 800-meter run. Senior Erinn White (Watertown, MA) and junior Alison Rodriguez (Albany, NY) finished second in the 5,000 and 3,000-meter runs, respectively, and senior Helen Dole (Shelburne Falls, MA) placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run.

On the menís side, junior Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) claimed first in the 800-meter run and joined senior tri-captain Andrew Schneider (Saratoga Springs, NY), first-year John Babbott (Ojai, CA) and junior Dave Molina (Cleveland, OH) to win the 4x800-meter relay at Wesleyan. Schneider also placed second in the 1,000-meter run, while Molina finished third behind classmate Mike Pageís (Fargo, ND) first-place finish in the 1,500-meter run. In the 3,000-meter run, sophomore Dave Schreiner (Manhattan Beach, CA) earned second, and first-year Cooper Knowlton (Montclair, NJ) claimed third in the 5,000-meter run.

On Saturday, the men and womenís teams will travel to Tufts University for the Tufts Invitational.
